you kiss me?”
Turning the chair, he looked at her. “Babe, everyone knows I spent last night in your bed. A kiss isn’t going to cause a ripple.”
“Ugh…”
“Tell me you didn’t think they thought I’d be in your room all night without being in your bed.”
Brittany glared at him. “Fine. I didn’t think about much of anything while we were making love, Scott. Is that so surprising?”
Holding up both hands, he shook his head. “Actually, I’m glad to hear it.”
She socked him on the arm. “Get over yourself.”
Placing a hand behind her neck, he drew her to him, brushing his lips over hers several times. He let out a guttural groan, but let her go.
“Can’t get carried away while I’m on duty.”
She could hear the regret in his voice. “No. Wouldn’t want to do that.”
Smirking, he turned back to the screens. “This last one is inside the house. You can see us on this one. Yes, someone at the clubhouse or WES probably saw us kissing. Don’t worry about it, because they couldn’t care less about what we do. Unless it impacts my focus on protecting you.”
Ignoring him, she studied the screen showing the images of the roads around Fuse’s house. “Who are they, Scott?”
He leaned closer, narrowing his gaze on the group of riders. “Sonofabitch.”
Touching his earpiece, he watched Brittany as he talked. “A group of Devils are on the highway near my house.”
“Copy that, Fuse. I’ve got them, buddy,” Tracker answered.
Wrath’s voice crackled through the earpieces. “Follow, but don’t engage.”
“You got it, Prez.” Again, Tracker answered, the sound of his Harley coming through the comms.
“What does it mean, Scott?”
He could hear the quiver in her voice and grabbed her hand. “I’m not sure, babe. Whatever it means, we’re ready for them.”
Chapter Twenty-Two
Making a complete turn around Fuse’s property, Grizzly stopped. There were four Devils with him. Hammer, Slider, Trick, and Pistol. He trusted the last two with his life. The first two, his own officers, were still unknowns.
“They gotta know we’re here, Prez.”
Grizzly shot an incredulous look at Slider. In his opinion, a man with half a brain. “Tell me something I don’t know.”
Slider slammed his mouth shut, hiding his disgust. Grizzly wasn’t any better than Mario, their last president. To his way of thinking, Hammer should’ve been elevated to president when Mario disappeared.
“What do we know?” Grizzly asked.
Trick ran a hand through his hair, studying the area through dark wraparound glasses. “They’ve got men on the roads and around the property guarding the target. See those poles?” He pointed to the light poles visible from their position. “My guess is they’ll be activated at dusk, making our approach more difficult.”
“Pistol?” Grizzly asked.
“Not much to add. I expect there’ll be an expensive security system around the house. Probably connected to the sheriff’s department.”
Hammer leaned over his handlebars. “Wrath, the president of the Brethren, is the older brother of the sheriff. Don’t know how tight they are.”
“They gotta know we’re coming back for the bitch,” Slider said. “If the Russians hadn’t jumped the gun, we’d have her already.”
“Well, they did. Now we deal with it,” Grizzly snapped. “We know they have security and are waiting for us.”
“Which means the woman is still there,” Pistol said.
Trick’s mouth curled into a sneer. “Not for long.”
“They rode the perimeter, spotted the light poles and the men,” Tracker said into his comm unit. “I couldn’t get close enough to hear anything, but I doubt they’re deterred. They’re coming after her and it will be tonight.”
Tracker’s instincts were as good as any of the Brethren, and he wasn’t often wrong. Plans had already been put into place. Not one of the men thought anything should be changed.
Wrath’s voice came through the comms. “Everything goes forward as planned. Rock and Ghost will close Fuse’s house and set the alarm. The men will take up their assigned positions. Wrangler, Tracker, and Moses will support Deke at the safe house. Fuse will not allow Brittany to get out of his sight. Is everyone clear?”
A chorus of clears and yes, sirs rang through the comms.
“Gentlemen, you have your orders. All comm units to stay open.”
Fuse turned in his chair to watch Brittany. At her insistence, he’d fitted her with an earpiece so she knew what to expect. The relaxed features of earlier were gone, replaced with lines of worry.
“So, this is it?”
Fuse placed a hand on her thigh and squeezed. “This is just a step, sweetheart. After tonight, they’ll have no idea where to look next. We’d all prefer
