Trigger's Light - Carol Dawn Page 0,43

at me to run away, but I can’t. I grab my phone and send off a text to Mason before getting out of the car and making my way to the barn door.

The door swings open and standing before me with a gun pointed at my head is the last person I ever expected to see tonight.

Marco Michaels. Brendon’s father.

“Say hi to your sister for me.”

Before I have time to process what he said, he pulls the trigger, and I fall into a painful darkness.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Trigger

Thea: I made a mistake. I’m so sorry. Please don’t ever forget how much I love you. Go to the Book Bin. In my office is a note inside the bassinet. Find us, Mason. Save us. We need you, daddy.

“MOTHER FUCKER.”

My house was empty when I got home. I searched every room in a panic and didn’t find Thea or Brendon anywhere. I was just about to start my bike when her text came through.

Someone has her. Someone has my family. And I’m pretty sure I know who.

I scroll through my contacts and hit Brick’s name. He’s hard to get ahold of these days, but I’m just hoping that tonight isn’t one of those nights.

“Yeah,” he answers.

“Brick, are you still at the hospital?”

“Yeah, was just about to leave,” he replies. “Why?”

“Thea and Brendon are missing. I think Marco took them.”

“You have got to be kidding me,” he mumbles. “I’ll let everyone know. Where do you want us to meet?”

“Leave Prez out of it,” I say. “He needs to stay there and be with his family. Meet me at the Book Bin. I got a text from Thea about a note in her office.”

“Fuck that, Trig,” Bear booms through the speaker. “You, Thea, and Brendon are my family, too. Rose and Daisy will be safe until I get back. We’ll all be there in ten minutes.”

The call disconnects. Shaking my head, I pocket my phone. Time to get my family back and kill some Death Mongrels.

When I get to Thea’s shop, everyone but Bear is already there.

“Prez decide to stay behind?” I ask.

“No, he wanted to rush home and switch his car for his bike,” Ink answers. “He should be pulling in any minute.”

“Let’s go find this note and get your family back.”

Brick opens the unlocked shop door and walks inside.

“That’s not a good sign,” Ink mutters quietly.

Shoving aside the knot in my stomach, I make my way to Thea’s office. The sight of her mattress and Brendon’s bed in this room makes me both pissed and worried.

“Bear’s here,” Brick says from behind me. “Where’s this note?”

I shake off the thoughts of Thea wanting to leave me and walk to the bassinet. Inside are Brendon’s blanket and a folded piece of paper.

If you want the boy back, come alone. If I see even one of those fucking Sons, I’ll sell the boy, and you’ll never see him again.

The note is jerked from my hand before I have time to process what I’ve read.

“Dammit, Trigger,” Bear growls. “I fucking told you to tell her. If she knew the actual danger she was in she wouldn’t have left the damn house on her own.”

He’s right. It’s my fault, and I accept that. However, I don’t accept the fact that I may never see my family again.

“It has an address listed at the bottom, but it isn’t signed.”

“It doesn’t need to be signed, Chains,” Ink says. “We know exactly who has her.”

“Do you think Slim can tell us where this address leads?”

Hawk pulls his phone out and makes a call.

“Hey Sweet Boy, do me a favor and check this address.”

Hawk reads the address and waits. It takes less than a minute for Slim to find it.

“Phoenix says that it’s an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere,” Hawk says. “Roughly an hour away. Thank you, baby, I love you.”

“Let’s hit the road, brothers,” Brick says, walking out the door. “We have some men to kill.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Thea

“You are very hard to kill.”

It feels like my body is on fire. A fire that is making its way through my veins at an excruciating speed. I try to scream, but only a whisper emerges.

“I can see that you’re in pain. Would you like me to speed this process along?”

I focus every amount of energy on speaking.

“Why?” I manage to push out.

“Why?” Marco answers. “Well, isn’t it obvious? That whore sister of yours lied to me about not being able to have children. I was going to make big fucking money off of
