the screen.
"Tell me that doesn't look exactly like Zeke?" Calvin announced.
My eyes grew wide and I moved Zackery out of the way to get closer. He wasn't joking. There I was, standing next to Jade, who was talking to Calvin. A quick conversation was exchanged before Calvin was running off as usual.
Jade turned to the Imposter Zeke, the two of them talking before moving to the hall to the gym.
"When was this, Calvin?" My voice was cold.
"Five minutes ago? I can—"
I jolted from the room, already running toward the gym at full sprint speed.
Zeus! Lights. Zackary! Pull the alarm and get Alaric, Tanner, and Bianca to the gym now! Zion! I want every single camera and sound device on in the gym right now!
"ON IT!" the three of them said in unison.
In seconds, the lights went off, only a few of the emergency lights flickering on as backup. Then the fire alarm went off.
I reached the hall to the gym with ease, skidding to a stop and pulling the door, only to realize it was locked.
"Shit!" I cursed, needing a moment to think.
Stairs...balcony!
I was running again, headed to the other side where the door to the stairs was. I raced through the students that were evacuating, cursing under my breath at how they were slowing me down.
I reached the door, thanking the heavens that it was unlocked. Taking the stairs three at a time, I was on the balcony in seconds.
Running to the steel railing, I skidded to a stop, gripping the cool metal before my eyes went wide and I began to shout.
"Ja—"
The sound of the gun going off seemed to ring in my ears.
My jaw went slack as I watched Jade's body fall to the side, the red gun she was holding skidding across the floor.
When it stopped it shifted to black before fading into dark smoke that ascended into the air.
My eyes trailed back to Jade's body, watching the dark red blood that began to pool beneath her head and spread like a gruesome halo.
The loud curse that echoed in the gymnasium caught my attention, my eyes locking onto a pair of black ones.
I stared at my imposter, noticing how his eyes narrowed on me and his hair shifted to full silver. He looked furious, as though things went the wrong way as he glared daggers at me.
My mind didn't register what I was doing until I was pushing off the rail with my feet, sending both my light and dark elements toward him in a swift attack.
He swung his hand in front of him, creating a whirlwind powerful enough to send my divine body backwards.
I flipped and landed on my feet, dashing forward to counter-attack, but with a snap, his body faded into nothing but darkness.
"Fuck!" I cursed, clenching my fists as I restrained my dark element to keep it from taking over.
My heart was racing, to the point it almost felt like I was suffocating, but then my eyes lowered to Jade's unmoving body, my heart sinking faster than the damn Titanic.
"Jade..." I struggled to walk suddenly, the world swaying until I fell to my knees.
I remembered this sight. It was exactly how my mother's body had looked as she lay in the pool of blood that grew bigger and bigger by the second.
The men around the room had laughed, their mockery their combined celebration over killing our mom.
Our everything.
Now I was experiencing it all over again. Seeing a woman I loved on the gym floor, the pool of blood spreading.
I knew it wasn't a dream or an illusion, or I wouldn't feel the hole of pain and guilt grow. My brothers could see what I could see.
They could feel my crushed heart and the void that was beginning to consume me. As if I couldn't believe my very eyes, I slowly rose up.
Though I struggled to walk, I did, step after step, my eyes still locked on Jade's body. She was in her usual attire. The normal black blazer that she loved to wear no matter if it was hot or cold, just so she had a place to slide her hands when she wanted to skip.
She didn't know we knew she did it to hide their trembling. That was just one of the many things in her file under the PTSD section. She didn't know that we knew about the details of the incident.
She had no idea that Alaric had spoken to the four of us at the very beginning and explained the
