Taming London (Warwick Dragons #1) - Milly Taiden Page 0,61
did keep information from me, but it was a short time and you had a reason. I have to work on that. My ex’s cheating really hurt me emotionally and destroyed my trust in myself and others. I’ll do my best not to take that out on you.”
He grabbed her hand and lifted it to his lips, kissing it softly and making her stomach flip. “I won’t ever lie to you, love. I will never withhold information. I won’t give you reasons to not trust me. I’ll earn your trust, Beth. You think you can work with me on this?”
Her lip trembled and she nodded. “Yes.”
“Good. Because I will do anything for you. You’re mine.”
Those were the sweetest words any man had ever said to her. The fear over loving London and trusting him dissipated. Only hope and love filled her heart. She loved him. And she looked forward to them being together. Forever.
While her head was resting on London’s powerful thigh, he was running his fingers through her hair and along her scalp. He said it was to ease the pressure and the shock, but she knew it was because he wanted to touch every single inch of her to make sure she was okay. She grinned. It gave her immense joy that he did things like that for her. London was the right man for her.
The doorbell rang, and London ran to get it, grabbing his wallet as he went. Bethany watched happily as the material of his sweatpants pulled against his beautiful bottom. The deep and pronounced V was there, on display. London had no qualms as he answered the door half-naked. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she recalled their unfortunate first meeting.
London took the tinfoil takeaway containers out of the brown paper bag and flipped the lids off. All of her favorites were there: chicken tikka masala, mounds of fresh naan bread, jeera rice, and mutter paneer. There were even a few samosas. The scent of spices tickled her nose happily and made her stomach grumble loudly.
“There’s nothing to comfort me like good Indian food.”
London took a huge bite of samosa, nearly stuffing the entire savory pastry into his mouth. “This is the best, too. It comes from my friend Orinder’s restaurant.”
“Oh, but I thought we would go in person.”
He shrugged. “There’s going to be plenty of time for that later. I wanted you all to myself tonight.”
As they ate their meal, conversation flowed between them. Some things had to be said, to be resolved. London swore never to keep things secret again, even if it was to protect her. Bethany promised that she was going to stop panicking and running away, that she would stay and talk. Oh, and that she was never going to go confront a murderer by herself again.
At the very least, they were able to repair their small fracture the Leonard Humphreys debacle had caused.
Bethany had never had a relationship where she could just be. This night with London, binging copious amounts of Indian food while watching television was like hanging out with a friend. It was easy and comforting. The sexy interludes and soft touches sure helped, but it was nice to be with someone who took her as she was.
“Hey,” she heard herself say, “I love you, London Warwick.”
His eyes widened and then a smile spread over his lips. “Well, that’s good, Bethany Russo. Because I love you, too.”
Epilogue
Bethany
Bethany leaned her head back against the seat of the car and sighed happily. She was exhausted but in the best way possible. The London city landscape rushed by as the fancy service car sped toward London’s apartment building. She watched the lights of the city as they colored the sky and buildings.
The night had been a success for the Warwick Natural History Museum. It had done wonders to showcase London’s exhibit and highlight his latest paper. His career as a historian was saved. All thanks to their efforts. As a team.
More than that, the benefit had raised a lot of money for the Literacy for Girls charity. The scholarship program was well underway, and Bethany’s business had gotten a lot of praise for her work on the evening’s organization. She was going to get a lot of business because of this. And she was intending on doing a lot of good with her work as well.
She had been meeting with Johanna and Lucille regularly. They were setting up a new foundation and a women’s shelter.
