of the car before London had time to rush around to get the door.
“I kind of want to get you upstairs and naked,” she giggled and wiggled her eyebrows at him suggestively.
He sighed dramatically and placed a hand to his heart. “Fuck, Beth. I’m not a machine. I need time to rest. Haven’t I already plied you with enough sex to last you at least a day?” The smile tugging at his lips betrayed his excitement. He wanted her again, too.
She laughed, shaking her head. After their flight around the estate, London had shifted back into his human form to show her around the sprawling mansion. They had only managed to make it to his bedroom. She hadn’t seen much of anything else in his ancestral home. But she had had more sex in that day than a full relationship with her ex, Lucas.
London was insatiable with the stamina of shifter.
Not that she was complaining.
“Never enough of you,” she said as she closed her arms around his neck.
He cupped her ass, bringing her into the hollow of his hips. London bent his head and kissed her swiftly and thoroughly. His tongue dipped into her mouth, making all kinds of promises of what was to come.
“Dear lord, help me. I’ve created a monster,” he whispered against her lips.
Bethany squealed in glee when he spun her around. London had changed a bit during their short time away from the city. He was lighter in his words, in his soul. It shined through him. Bethany was happy to see that he was as giddy as she was. She felt like they were two teens in love, without a care in the world.
That wasn’t true, of course. There was still a lot to do, and she hadn’t forgotten all of her responsibilities, but it was nice to bask in the glow of new love.
London grabbed her overnight bag from the boot and held out his hand. She laced her fingers with his and they rode the elevator all the way up to the penthouse. The short trip up was made even shorter because Bethany couldn’t manage to keep her hands off her man.
Her man.
London Warwick was her man. Just as much as she was his mate. It was nearly too good to be true.
Once the elevator dinged and deposited them at London’s front door, he picked her up clear off the floor and walked her through the threshold. It was a loaded moment, one that was meaningful for both of them.
“You’ve been gone.” There was an accusation in the man’s tone.
Bethany jumped in fright, and London gave her a good squeeze before easing her down from his arms. He was shooting thunder and lightning to the stranger with his eyes. She didn’t recognize the man. He was handsome, but nowhere near as drop-dead-gorgeous as London. There was anger rolling off of the man that made Bethany nervous. London didn’t seem bothered by it at all. In fact, he seemed to be rather used to it, walking by the man and dropping her bag into his bedroom before coming back into the living room.
“Beth, this is James,” London said. “My best friend and a huge pain in the ass.”
James smiled at her. “It’s lovely to make your acquaintance. I’m guessing you’re the reason why this one hasn’t been answering my calls?”
“Guilty,” she answered with a restrained giggle. “We were at the estate, and we sort of lost track of time.”
James’ anger seemed to dissipate as his shoulders lowered, and he breathed easier.
“It’s fine, really. It’s not like we had any important business to discuss.” The sharp accusatory tone was back as James’s eyes slid over to London.
Her man growled low in response. “Not now, James.”
But the warning was ignored.
“Did he tell you?” James asked her, crossing his arms.
“Tell me what? He told me a lot of things.” Bethany could only guess that James knew everything about the Warwicks being dragon shifters. There was no way to know if London had told his friend she was his mate. Was that something shifters shared? She had a lot to learn about her new man. Especially if he was still keeping things from her.
That definitely didn’t bode well for their one-day relationship. No matter that they were mates.
Bethany wasn’t a fan of secrets. Was anyone? Knowing your partner kept things from you was never a good sign. In fact, Bethany had learned that when her ex had cheated on her.
“Has he told you a lot? Hmm. I wonder…”
