matter how unplanned he or she might be?” He chuckles softly. “How do you know I’m not really that sleazy, arrogant tool I’ve tried too hard to be?”
I hold his gaze for a long moment, a warm joy rising in my chest. “Because you asked me to stay.”
“Huh?”
“For coffee. The morning after we…you know…” I gesture vaguely at my belly, making him laugh.
“Because I gave you coffee? That automatically means I’m not a badass chick magnet?”
“Matt.” I arch a brow. “I’m no expert on the techniques of womanizing fuckboys, but…” I inch forward, letting the magnetic pull of his body move me a little. “I’m pretty sure they don’t ask you to stay for coffee in the morning.”
He processes this for a second, holding up a finger and opening his mouth to argue, but clearly not thinking of a good rebuttal. “Okay, fine. You got me. I’m not really much of a playboy.”
“It’s cute how hard you try, though,” I tease, jumping on the opportunity to touch him again by softly nudging his arm.
“Shut up,” he says on a laugh, looking down and shaking his head. “Being a fucking sweetheart doesn’t exactly vibe with the whole quarterback status quo. I always thought that if I could be like Chase, and play like Chase, I could eventually have a career like his. And fans like his.”
“But you’re not him, Matt. You’re you. You’re kind and selfless without being a beta or a pussy or however the hell you guys rip on each other. If we can show the Riders fans how genuine and humble you are while still being a beast on the field, you’ll be a damn hero.”
“Ellie Vice…” He draws out my name slowly, savoring it on his lips as he leans back into the couch cushion and gives me a playful look. “You know, if we weren’t already having a baby together, I’d think you were pretty into me.”
I shove him softly and bite back a laugh, feeling my cheeks flush with embarrassment. “Look, I’m just doing my job.”
He leans closer now, close enough for me to smell that dangerously tempting shampoo and feel the heat from his broad chest just inches from me. “Is that so?”
“Mm-hmm.” I swallow and draw in a shaky breath, the tension between us making every muscle in my body tight. “You’re a…client.”
“A client?”
My eyes fall onto the tiny cleft in his chin and the way his teasing smile is the tiniest bit crooked, and my heartbeat picks up even more.
I meet his gaze again, and fire burns behind his eyes. “Exactly.”
“So…do you come over to your other clients’ places in the middle of the night?” His voice is husky and low.
He brushes a strand of hair out of my face and tucks it behind my ear, keeping his hand on my cheek as he draws me closer and angles my head up toward him.
“Well, not generally, but…” My voice trails off as our lips inch closer and closer together.
“Do your other clients do this?” He tightens his hand on my cheek and presses his lips to mine.
I suck in a sharp breath of shock and butterflies and delight as I kiss him back, hard and desperate.
Every neuron in my brain lights up at once, and my body instantly melts against his.
Matt kisses me slowly, passion crashing over me in waves as I part my lips slightly, letting him slip his tongue between my teeth and tease me.
His other hand wraps around my waist and pulls me hard and tight and close against him, his rocks of muscles anchoring me and stopping me from just floating away altogether.
He deepens the kiss, and I run my hands through his damp hair, grabbing it hard and letting my body fall into him.
Fireworks sizzle and crackle as kissing turns into making out, and all sense of reason and logic is thrown out the window as my hands explore his masterpiece of a body, sliding under his T-shirt and tracing hard cuts of muscle.
“Matt,” I whisper between kisses, my voice coming out more like a whimper.
“Ellie,” he rasps, kissing down my neck and over my collarbone as he gently lowers me onto my back and shifts on top of me.
I arch against him and dig my fingers into his back, heat pooling between my legs as he rocks against me, and the world feels like it’s shifting and spinning.
Pull it together, Ellie. You can’t get involved. You can’t make this more of a mess than it already
