double-check. “Whoa.”
“You’re lucky ‘cause you’re about too.” Holly punched him in the arm. “Don’t ever scare me like that again!”
“Scare you?” He cocked his brow. “I’m the one that fell, not you.”
Holly ignored him as she continued, “And yet you wanted to wrap me in bubble wrap! I should wrap you in bubble wrap! I’ve never fallen through a ceiling before. Who needs to be accident proofed now?” Holly looked up once again. “Holy crap, look at that hole!”
Ben groaned as he rolled his eyes. “You’ve never fallen through the ceiling ‘cause I don’t allow you up there.”
John burst out laughing in that can’t control it double over in pain kind of laugh. “Holy shit, dude, you fell through the ceiling. This is the best day of my life. I take it back. I don’t know why I was complaining about being here. I would’ve missed this if I wasn’t.” John laughed harder gasping for air.
As John continued his roaring, Jimmy slowly walked over to the couch his eyes wide as tears threatened to fall from them. “Dad, are you okay?”
Still a little shaken, Ben reached for their son. “Yeah, I’m okay, Jimmy. Thankfully, I landed on the couch.”
Jimmy looked him over before letting out a small breath. “Do we need to take you to the hospital, like we have to take Mom sometimes?”
Holly gasped as she frowned at the little jerk who was sporting a shit-eating grin on his face. “It’s been months since I’ve been to the ER.”
Jimmy shifted toward Holly. “That’s ‘cause Dad can patch you up at the clinic.”
Holly’s mouth fell open. Oh my God, how did this get turned back onto me again? I didn’t just fall through the freaking ceiling!
“This is priceless.” John laughed harder. “Only thing that’d make it better, is if I had popcorn.”
Holly snapped her attention to John. “Shut your pie hole or I’ll shut it for you.” Might as well call Officer Jones ‘cause Holly was going to lose it.
A goofy smile appeared on John’s face as his brows shot up. “With pie?”
Holly growled deep in her throat. “If by pie, you mean my fist, then yes.”
Just as Holly was about to lose it, Ben took her in his arms. “He’s not worth it.”
“Am too,” John announced.
They both ignored him as Ben continued to hold Holly in his arms. The fact he was okay made her relax but at the same time she wanted to scream.
Holy shit!
Her adrenaline hadn’t been this high since Jimmy disappeared at the hospital while she was giving birth to Helen.
Holy fucking shit.
Who falls through the ceiling? That shit only happens in the movies… Then she thought about it. Actually, that would happen to them.
Holly took another deep breath as she pulled back from Ben’s arms giving him another once-over. He really did look okay.
Thank the Universe.
Then Holly’s eyes looked around the room again, mess wasn’t even close to what it really was. Over in the corner, she saw Twitch climbing through one of the holiday boxes. She shifted back to Ben. “Why were you putting up the decorations? I thought we were going to do that tomorrow as a family.”
Maybe it was the adrenaline of watching her husband fall through their ceiling, but somehow, a pang of hurt rang through her. Holly wanted to put up the decorations together. To make a memory that would last a lifetime. And to make sure it was perfect, of course.
“We were trying to surprise you, Mom.”
“This sure is a surprise all right.” Holly sighed, pulling Jimmy into her arms kissing him on the head. He might be a traitor but she loved him. Subconsciously, her eyes glanced at the hole again. I can’t believe this is happening.
“Dad, why did ya have to fall through the ceiling?”
“It wasn’t my plan.”
Jimmy looked at the hole and then back to him. “That’s a big hole.”
“That’s what she said.” John burst into another round of hysterics as he laughed at his own joke.
“John!” Holly jerked her eyes to him.
“What?”
Holly shook her head before she turned back at her husband. “It’s okay. No one is hurt.” Out of nowhere, Holly couldn’t help the smirk that appeared on her face as the thought jumped through her head. “Are you sure you’re okay, Grace?”
“Oh, no you don’t. The only Grace in this relationship is you.” Ben’s brows shot up as he stared at her.
“And yet, I’ve never fallen through the ceiling.”
“‘Cause you’re not allowed up there, I just told you that! Besides, I wasn’t the
