choked out. “We’re friends. We can get past this.” We had to. I couldn’t lose Silas.

He shut his eyes and shook his head. I felt suddenly cold, like I was going into shock, because holy shit. I had just met Silas’s penis. At work. I could still kind of feel him.

“I have to go.” I turned, overwhelmed, and speed-walked, tugging my stupid loose skirt up as I went. Don’t think, Harlow. Don’t think.

The fates were on my side the next morning when I woke and realized who else was home with the day off. Holly, Rhea, Cheryl, and Willa. Halleluiah.

I brought them all into the kitchen when the sun was up and made everyone coffee, and Cheryl her tea. I knew how each of them took it and insisted I serve them.

“Okay,” I said, standing and pacing. “Everyone good?”

“Are you going to sit with us?” Rhea asked. “You’re making me nervous.”

“No.” I shook my head. “I can’t. Something happened.”

“What’d that muthafucka do?” Willa asked. “If his girl called you again, I will go after her my damn self.”

“What?” For a hot second I was confused. “Oh! No, this isn’t about Shawn. It’s over with him. I need to tell you guys everything.” I wrung my hands together and pivoted. I still felt empty inside, the wall high and strong, my emotions being held behind a dam.

“What happened, boo?” Rhea asked.

“Yeah,” Holly said. “You got home really late last night. Do we need to call the cops?”

Cheryl shook her head. “I’m not feeling that kind of dangerous energy. She’s, like, buzzing. But I can’t place it. Kind of excitement? But also a shit ton of worry.”

I finally stopping and looking at them. “I had sex with Silas last night in a shower stall of the crew room.”

“Ah.” Cheryl nodded.

Willa smacked the table and coughed like she was choking on her own spit.

“What?” Holly yelled as Rhea began a slow clap.

“I don’t know what to do!” I said, pacing again. “Everything is going to be awkward now. I’m going to have to avoid him and then act like it never happened, and—”

“Whoa, whoa,” Rhea said. “Why act like it never happened?”

“Because he’s a good friend of mine. And friends don’t fuck.”

“I mean…” Holly spread her hands out on the table. “They can.”

Cheryl leaned her elbows on the table. “You’re both hurting. It’s natural that you sought one another out.”

“But we didn’t,” I said. “It just sort of happened.”

“Okay,” Willa said, twining her fingers over her crossed knee. “I’m going to need you to tell me every detail of how this lil incident just sort of happened.”

Rhea picked up her coffee and slurped with her eyebrows up like she was waiting patiently.

“One second we were hugging and saying how sucky things were. We hugged for a really long time. It was nice. And then we looked at each other, and then we were kissing like crazy and we sort of stumbled into the stall and I was rubbing on him, and he turned me around and…” I had to stop because I was breathing hard.

“Oh, my God,” Holly said.

“And his dick totally matches his body,” I said before plopping down into a chair like a popped balloon.

“Yes!” Rhea punched the air. “I knew it.”

“Girl.” Willa gave me three long blinks. “He did you from behind? Up against the shower wall? Girl.” She fanned herself with those long nails.

“I know.” I covered my face and groaned. “You guys, it was so hot. But we only did it for a minute because another freaking pilot came in to shower! I’m so stupid and weak. It was just rebound sex. Or maybe revenge sex. He’s going to regret it.”

“Wait, just for a minute?” Holly asked.

“Yeah.” And that made me think. “It might not even be considered sex, right? We barely did it. It was, like, just the tip for a second.” I lit up. If we’d barely even really had sex, then this wasn’t a big deal, right? Silas and I could breeze right past this whole thing!

But the whole room was looking at me with duck lips pulled to the side in skepticism.

“You know damn well he put the whole thing in,” Willa said. “His hips were up against your ass like this.” She smashed her hands together and pumped them, making me cover my eyes. Rhea and Holly giggled like a couple of fiends as my hopes withered.

“Neither of you finished?” Cheryl asked. I shook my head and she nodded. “You’re both going to
