10, Shamika "Mika" Brown aka India, had always dreamed about doing music. In 1994 she got her break. She started a girls singing group, Harmony Innocent, with some High School friends. They practiced everyday after school, weekends and every free moment they had. After becoming local favorites, the group met producer Lorenzo Pryor. He had worked with many R&B heavyweights. Lorenzo took on the girls and polished their craft and after a lot of hard work they received a record contract from Quality Records. They release the single, "That's What I Like," which quickly climbed to the top 100 Billboard Charts. India was balancing her freshman year in college when the group started to fall apart. Harmony Innocent broke up two years later.
AFTER HAVING BAD EXPIERENCES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, India decided to do something so different that no one was prepared to comprehend. In 1998 India entered the adult industry and soon was getting noticed and becoming very popular. She was told that most black girls don't last in the adult film industry. She took it as a challenge to prove that she had the staying power. Doing more and more movies and became one of the most popular black adult stars ever, she was everywhere, almost a poster rep for porn. India was sought after by many of the large porn companies and eventually signed with Video Team and was exclusively with them for years. Prior to Video Team, India worked for many big name companies, Vivid Video, Wicked, VCA, West Coast Production, New Sensations, Metro, Hustler and Playboy TV. She also starred in many magazine covers, Hustler, Cheri, Brown Sugar by Hustler, Black Tail, Players, Black Illustrated, Club Magazine 3xs. In addition, she has been featured in many mainstream magazines such as XXL, Source Magazine 2XS (cover story), Blackmen's magazine (feature story), King magazine and many music videos. She was on the box cover for the Snoop Dogg adult film, "Doggie Style," which sold over 1 million copies and was the highest seller in porn ever. India was one of the few black women to receive a toy collection by Cal Exotics, the "India love doll." At the AVN Adult Video Awards she was nominated every year in many categories and had won many awards. Even after leaving the industry she was nominated for best supporting actress and best music. She won the best music award. Her fans love her and when she does personal appearances she attracts large crowds and long lines. She loves her fans and always stays until the last fan has her autograph.
NOW THAT INDIA HAS LEFT THE PORN INDUSTRY SHE IS FOCUSING ON HER BOOK AND MUSIC. "I always loved to write so it was natural for me to write about my life."
India independently released the album "Role Play" in 2006. Even though the album had limited promo and no radio, she still sold 15,000 copies on her own. After that, the major record labels came wanting a piece of the action and she was offered a distribution deal with different labels. She signed with ADA/Warner Music Group; but she wanted everything to be right and get respected from her music peers and she didn't feel as though she was getting it. India worked hard on her craft and changed the direction of her music no longer talking about sex on every record. She wanted to talk about other situations but the label felt otherwise so India made a break with the label. She recently released on her own 2 new singles on Amazon and iTunes, "High Class" and "Money Stacks." She is focusing on a book idea. With all of her life experiences and all of the celebrities and interesting people she has met, she knew her life would make a great story. "I remember talking to my ex fiancée in our beautiful California home about crazy stories and experiences with Hollywood and entertainment elite and he convinced me that people want to hear about it".
GROWING UP IN THE ROUGH STREETS OF COMPTON THIS GIRL IS A SUCESS STORY IN HER OWN WAY. India has made it out the hood and wants to go back and help others. Because of her fans, in May 2009 India started an internet radio show. It already has over 44,000 listeners and she has had many recognizable names on the show from platinum artist to "A List" adult stars to sports owners. Her radio show, The Dollhouse, has become one of the most popular internet
