Savage King: New Worlds - Milly Taiden Page 0,18
She let him tug her forward into the forest.
“Have fun with hot buns,” Lilah called out. “We’ll be here when you get back.”
Wren put a hand over her face, too embarrassed to look at the man dragging her with him. What the hell? It wasn’t like they were going to have sex. Good God. They’d only known him for an hour. Though his hints that he liked her were rather obvious. She sucked at charades, but even she could see his attraction.
Before getting out of hearing range of the ladies, Daphne said, “Good thing the berries only made you throw up. Can you imagine how he would show the squirts?”
“Oh God,” Wren mumbled. Hopefully he didn’t know what diarrhea meant.
His hand was warm in hers and engulfed it. His palm and fingers were soft and smooth. He looked down at her with a smile. Her legs turned to jelly. Damn, he was so freaking gorgeous. She wondered why someone like him would like someone like her. If she were pretty like Lilah, then boys would’ve noticed her in school. But she wasn’t. She was just plain.
He pulled her closer and kissed the back of her hand. She gasped as his lips touched her skin. She licked her own lips, wanting another kiss but not on her hand. She smiled and shook her head. They couldn’t do that yet. Hell, they shouldn’t even be holding hands. But she wasn’t going to take her hand back. Nope. The air was getting heavy around them. Shit.
“So, Xenos,” she blurted, “the forest is pretty. So was the jungle, but I don’t care to ever go back there. I can’t believe no one has said much about the man-eating flower. I need to google that when we get home.”
“Google?” he said.
“Yeah, that’s a search engine online. . .” She stopped when she realized he didn’t understand anything she was saying. “I guess you don’t have a laptop setup in your tepee, huh?”
He moved his head to the side and said, “Ne.”
She studied him for a second as they walked. She thought back to their charade conversations. With the words ne and jes, he tilted his head to the side. “Wait,” she said, yanking him to a stop. “Your ne means no, and jes is yes.”
His head tilted to the right. “Jes.”
“Am I too short for you?”
He brows drew down, anger entering his eyes. He stepped closer, his head tipped to the left. “Ne. . .” he said more, but she’d seen what she needed.
“When we say yes, we nod,” she tilted her head up and down. “No is shaking the head.” She turned her head side to side.
“Interesaj,” he said, doing both motions.
She was so excited. She’d figured out some of his language. Granted, it was the two most basic words in the dictionary, but it was a start. She felt a connection starting. First one in the real world for a long time.
He pointed up at a tree. Leaping ten feet to the lowest branch, he grabbed a hold. Damn, that was impressive. He barely put any effort in it. She used to love to climb and sit with the wind in her hair, sun on her face. Back when she had no worries as long as she was home for dinner.
“Kapti,” he said, drawing her attention to him. He held out a ball and dropped it. Oh shit. She stepped back so it wouldn’t hit her in the face if she missed. She wasn’t the best player in softball. She studied the item. It looked like a yellow apple. Didn’t smell like anything. He called her again and let loose of three more, one at a time.
He jumped down, landing right in front of her, startling her. Standing right there, he looked down on her. If he wanted to kiss her, this was the perfect opening. And he took that opportunity, leaning down, brushing his lips over hers. Just the lightest of touches.
Her heart flipped. So soft, so yummy. No other kiss in her life compared to the short peck she received from this man. She wanted so much more. To feel his body against hers, his hands roaming all over, touching every part of her.
She heard her voice say, “That was the most amazing taste I’ve ever had. Better than chocolate pudding.” Her eyes snapped open, and she stared at him to see if he’d heard her. How embarrassing. He just smiled and took two apples from her hand then engulfed her
