looked at the doctor then back to him. "What does he have? He’ll be fine, right? It’s treatable. It has to be. He just felt faint. It can’t be anything bad."
He slipped his hand into Jack’s and squeezed. "How about we let the doctor speak now, babe."
The doctor gave Jack an indulgent smile before he focused on Eli. He wanted to panic, and his stomach was doing it’s best to bring up the pizza, but he kept telling himself the doctor wouldn’t smile if it was something bad.
"We ran the blood test," the doctor said, "and…you’re pregnant. Congratulations."
"I’m what?" Eli shot a look at Jack, and he looked as stunned as Eli felt.
How did he not notice? Jack squeezed Eli’s hand in his.
"It’s true," Dr. Randolph said. "I’ll leave you two to discuss this while I prepare for a discharge and prenatal vitamins." He left the room, and Eli turned back to Jack.
"Wow…pregnant!" He couldn’t read the look on Jack’s face.
"How’s it even possible? We used protection." Eli tried not to panic. Jack wasn’t Parker. He wasn’t.
Jack’s laughter pulled him out of his mind. Laughter was a good sign. "Apparently you’ve already forgotten about that one time in the hotel room..."
"Oh, yeah. Right. Yeah." He bit his lips and looked up at Jack. "How do you feel? You know, about it, this."
Jack’s lips stretched into a wide smile. "Like I won a lottery I didn’t even sign up for." He then leaned in and they kissed.
Eli couldn’t even believe it. This was always the life and relationship he longed for but never thought he would have.
"I love you," Eli whispered.
"I love you." Jack smiled. "But now…we have something important we need to do."
"What’s that?" Eli asked. "Have our family together to share the good news?"
"Well, I definitely want that," Jack said. "No doubt. But first, I think we need to tell Damon he’s going to be a big brother."
Eli laughed. "I can’t even believe we’re going to bring a little girl or boy into this world. Do you think Damon will even understand?"
Jack looked thoughtful. "I think he will. We’re going to be the happiest family." Eli wrapped his arms around Jack’s neck, and Jack rested his head against Eli’s.
There was a knock on the door and a nurse peeked his head in. "I’m supposed to run through some prenatal care," he said. "Is this a good time?"
Jack sat on the edge of Eli’s bed and held his hand. "It is," Eli said.
One thing was for sure; this pregnancy was already starting out different than Damon’s had. Jace had been right when he told Eli to trust Jack.
The nurse walked in and had brought some flyers. He sat down on a stool across from them and went over everything. From the corner of Eli’s eye, he saw Jack watching him. That loving look in his eye told Eli all he needed to know. That he would be alright. It might not have been planned, but the baby would come into the world surrounded by love.
Eli looked over to Jack. The fact that he wanted to make sure Damon was brought into the conversation made Eli exceptionally happy. It warmed his heart to know that Damon was always on his mind.
Jack said he loved Damon even before he told Eli the same. Eli smiled just thinking about that moment.
Eli turned to his son. "We have some news to share with you," Eli started.
Damon’s eyes lit up as if he already knew what they were going to say. "What? Are we getting a puppy?"
That made Eli laugh. But Jack, he seemed more intrigued by Damon’s question. "Do you want a puppy?" Damon nodded excitedly and Eli laughed harder. "We might just be able to make that happen," Jack said.
Eli looked over to him. "I can see who’s going to be fun dad," Eli whispered. Jack shrugged, the smirk on his lips was contagious. Eli snickered and looked back at Damon. "We’ll discuss the puppy at a later date," he said firmly, or Eli had a feeling one would magically show up in his house. "That’s not what this is about."
"We’ll talk about this later," Jack whispered as he reached out and grabbed Eli’s hand, pulling him closer.
"Puppy is the best," Damon said.
"This is better," Eli reassured his son.
He touched his stomach, and Jack wrapped his arm around him. He rested against Jack’s arm and continued. "No. It’s not a puppy, but you are going to be a big brother. Daddy is going
