Reese (Pack of Misfits #2) - Raven Kennedy Page 0,86
he answers. “Are you propositioning me?” he says, humor in his voice.
I smack him lightly on his pec even as my cheeks burn. “No! Shut up.”
His arm shifts until he hauls me up so that I’m lying on top of him, my palms pressed against his collarbone. “I told you, my animal still wants to.”
I swallow. “Wants to what?”
He smirks at my playing dumb. “To mate you.”
“Yeah, mine too. She’s not giving up.”
“I know.”
I frown at him. “You know?”
“Yeah, I know.”
“Cocky, aren’t you?”
“Well, my animal is the largest raptor in the world.”
“Really?” I ask, making my tone sound surprised. “You didn’t seem that big.”
He narrows his brown eyes on me. “Didn’t seem that big?” he repeats incredulously. “My wingspan is over ten feet!”
A mischievous smile curls my lips. “Oh, were you talking about wings? I was talking about your co—”
He cuts me off. “You wicked little mouse.” His hips come up, purposely pressing his impressive length into me. I have to stifle a breathy moan.
“Majestic pack rat,” I primly correct, even as I wriggle over his growing length, feeling him heat up beneath me. “And what can I say? I just thought it would be bigger,” I tease with a smirk.
He nips at my bottom lip, sucking it between his teeth. “That’s not what you said last night,” he reminds me as his hands run over my butt in slow, teasing circles. “In fact, I think your exact words were, ‘Fuck, Luca, you’re too big. I can’t take anym—’ ”
I slap a hand over his mouth. “Shh. It’s not polite to mock a lady in the throes of passion.”
He chuckles against my palm and nips my skin until I drop my hand. “How about I put you right back into the throes of passion?” he asks before deftly flipping us so that I’m lying beneath him.
I giggle, excitement zinging through me. “Yes, please.”
His mouth comes down to take me in a kiss, but right before our lips meet, someone’s fist pounds on the door. We both freeze.
“Luca, you got Reese in there?”
“Shit, it’s Igor,” Luca tells me.
All the fire that Luca kindled instantly ices over, and anxiety comes rising up like a wave.
“Just a minute,” Luca calls out to him.
“Meet me outside,” the second-in-command says before we hear his footsteps walking away.
Luca and I quickly get out of bed and dress—him in clean clothes and me in the same ones I wore yesterday. As soon as we’re dressed, we rush downstairs and pull open the front door, finding Igor waiting for us by his car. I run a nervous hand through my tangled hair.
“Is it Sid?” I ask. “Or Rick?”
He nods. “We finally tracked down Rick. He was brought to a county jail about an hour from here.”
My eyes widen. “He got arrested?”
“Yep. Misdemeanor charges. He’s got a track record.”
“How’d you find him?”
“We got a tip from our local police connection that there might’ve been a shifter arrested. Seems he was right.”
I tug on the ends of my hair. “When is he getting out?”
“He’s not,” Igor answers. “He’s dead.”
I reel back. “Dead? How?”
“Inmate fight that went wrong. But we’re pretty sure that was just the cover.”
Breath hisses out from between my teeth. “Sid had him killed.”
Igor tips his head. “Him or someone else. But it makes sense for it to be Sid, from what you’ve told us about him. An alpha like that wouldn’t have forgiven Rick for losing you as his hostage.”
A huge lump forms in my throat. “If we assume that, then we have to assume that Sid is around.”
“Yes, but it would be easier for him to find Rick than find you. All we can do is make sure we find him first.”
“We think we tracked down the apartment where the bat shifter kept you. We’d like you to come and confirm it for us and identify some of the other scents if you can,” Igor says. “One of them might be Sid’s, and if we can lock onto his scent, the enforcers have a better shot at tracking him.”
“When?”
“Now. You up for it?”
I look over at Luca. “Will you come with me?”
“Of course.”
I give him a grateful smile.
“Let’s go,” Igor says.
Luca and I get into Igor’s SUV, where Stinger waits in the front seat. The blond male looks totally different when he’s not wearing weird polo shirts and flip flops. Dressed in his enforcer gear that consists of black fatigue-type pants and long-sleeved shirt, he looks formidable.
