Reese (Pack of Misfits #2) - Raven Kennedy Page 0,71

Reese, but she’s nowhere to be found. He better not have been lying about her coming.

Frowning, I consider going inside to find her, but Toby corners me. “Luca! Right on time. You excited?”

“Where exactly are we going?”

“Uhh…” he frowns.

I look at him incredulously. “You don’t even know which beach we’re going to and you organized this whole thing?”

He shrugs. “My girl said she wanted to go to a beach and wear a bikini. That’s about as far as I was thinking ahead.”

Mitzy comes up, rolling her eyes at him. “Don’t be a sleaze. And I’m not your girl.”

He slings his arm around her shoulders. “Sure you are.”

She shrugs him off. “We’re going to Tomales Beach,” she tells me. “Should be there by about midnight if we don’t hit traffic.”

“Misfits, load up!”

I see several people hop into Stinger’s black Excursion, and I make a beeline for it, but by the time I get to it, it’s already full. “Sorry, guess you’ll have to ride in Toby’s van!” Stinger says with a grin. I don’t see Reese inside, so I flip him off and stalk back to Toby’s bus.

It’s a white and bright orange monstrosity. The paint is faded, and the interior seats are even brighter than the outside paint in an obnoxiously seventies-style orange and brown plaid pattern.

Toby is already sitting in the driver’s seat, The Beatles blaring over the speakers.

“Addie, I thought you were riding in the bus with me?”

My head whips around at Reese’s voice. She’s standing in the yard, looking at Addie with wide eyes. The duck shifter grimaces. “Sorry. The guys wanted to ride separate. But I can ride with you if—”

“No,” one of her mates—Herrick—says, cutting her off as he picks her up and slings her over his shoulder. “We have important things to discuss.”

She laughs even as she tries to push herself off. “What important things?”

“Important private things.”

Addie’s face flushes, and she gives Reese a sheepish look as she’s taken away.

Reese sighs. “They’re going to have car sex, aren’t they?”

“Probably.”

Her eyes fly to mine, and she breaks out into a grin. “There you are! Addie assured me you were coming.”

“Like I’d miss a beach trip with my adorable mouse.”

She narrows her eyes. “I’m a majestic rat.”

My mouth curves. “Of course.” I step aside at the door. “Come on, you go first so I can look at your majestic ass while you bend over to get in.”

Shooting me a smirk, she gets into the bus, wiggling her ass a bit more than necessary. I bite back a groan and duck in after her. She buckles herself into the far end of the bench seat, and I take position right beside her.

The rest of our packmates pile in, until we have Toby and Jenson in the front, Freya, Mitzy, and Zoey, who are already talking up a storm in the back row, and then...Susie sits down on the other side of me. My whole damn body tenses, and I shoot her a look. She just smiles at me as she buckles herself.

Motherfucker.

Instead of me getting some special one-on-one time with Reese during a long car ride, now I’m crushed between the female who I just started dating and the one I already did.

The cars honk, headlights flash, and with a whoop from Toby, our caravan gets on the road. Up front, he and Jenson are talking about a football game that aired the night before, while the females behind me are talking about the importance of a cooling period before one should be able to get bangs.

I desperately want to get caught up in their talks before Reese realizes I used to date Susie, because that is not a conversation I want to have right now, but I didn’t watch the game, and...bangs? Yeah, I know fuck-all about bangs.

“So, Reese, is it?”

“Yeah.”

Goddammit.

Susie smiles across at her, but I can see the gleam in her eye as she takes in Reese’s appearance. Susie is...well, as far as looks go, she’s polar opposite of Reese. Where Reese has a golden skin tone, Susie is pale. Where Reese’s hair is dark brown, Susie is blonde. And where Reese has brown eyes, Susie has blue. Susie is also curvier and taller than Reese, and unlike the shy rat, Susie loves being the center of attention.

She also has never gotten over the fact that we broke up.

It was nearly six months ago, but Susie seems to think that I’ll change my mind and get back together with her—which I have no desire
