also happens to be the most pissed off looking female I’ve ever seen.
One side of her head has black hair, the other white, and she has it pulled back in a tight ponytail; the only parts left down are her long, blunt bangs. She’s milky pale but has dramatic dark eyeliner on her lids and deep red lipstick on her lips. She’s wearing a loose black t-shirt, holey jeans, and a wicked scowl.
“Hey, Jetta,” Addie says brightly. She’s either impervious to Jetta’s glare or she’s oblivious. “This is Reese. She’s a new pack member just like you.”
Jetta’s eyes narrow. “I’m not a pack member.”
“Not yet,” Addie says with a smile. “Anyway, Reese needs somewhere to stay, and I was hoping she could bunk here with you.”
Jetta’s dark eyes sweep over me with only minimal interest. She shrugs and moves aside. “Doesn’t matter to me. I’m not staying long.”
Addie sighs as she leads me inside the room. “I wish you would stay.”
Jetta just shrugs again and sits back down on the bed where she must’ve been hanging out before we came in. She picks up the remote and points it at the TV, turning up the volume. A quick look shows that she’s watching a show about how to get away with murder. Lovely.
Both twin beds are on opposite ends of the room, and the empty one is near the window, which suits me just fine. After being trapped in Rick Dick’s apartment for so long without being able to look out, I’ll enjoy the view.
The bedding and curtains are cream colored, but that’s about the extent of any sort of hominess in here. It’s clear that Jetta really doesn’t intend to stay here, because the room is completely bland and empty aside from a matching pair of dressers and nightstands. There aren’t any personal touches at all.
I place the cage at the foot of the bed I’ll be sleeping in, and dump the bag on the bed.
“Pretty self-explanatory,” Addie begins. “That’s your dresser and your bed. You guys both have a key to the room. I suggest you lock it when you’re not here, because people will pull pranks on you otherwise,” she warns. “You can find your key in the dresser drawer. Oh, and the bathroom you’ll be using is the one right next door. You’ll be sharing it with two of the guys, so just work it out with them if you need it during a specific time. I’m sure you’ll be wanting a shower and to change into some clean clothes.”
I look down self-consciously at Luca’s t-shirt. “Yeah.”
“You stink like sex sweat,” Jetta mutters behind me.
“I just got done with my heatwave. It was pretty intense,” I explain. “I don’t normally look or smell like this.”
Jetta doesn’t reply. I have a feeling being her roommate is going to be interesting.
Addie taps her lip in thought. “Okay, I think that’s it. Food gets restocked in the kitchen every Friday, but if there’s something specific you want, leave it on the list hanging by the fridge. But you can eat anything that’s down there. It’s a free for all.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll get out of your sex hair now.” I glare at her, and she chuckles. Before she leaves the room, she points at Jetta. “Be nice.”
Jetta raises a perfectly arched brow at her. Addie rolls her eyes and walks out.
I stand there awkwardly for a few seconds, but it’s clear that Jetta isn’t going to talk, and she kind of scares me.
“So...Jetta. How’d you end up here?” I ask, hoping my voice sounds nice and friendly.
“Long story.”
She doesn’t elaborate and just continues to watch TV. I mess with the hem of the t-shirt. “Me too. I’m a pack rat. Got trapped in my animal for five years. This is all a little new to me.”
She looks at me from the corner of her eye before turning her attention back to her show. “Hmm.”
Cheese and rice, Addie wasn’t kidding when she said Jetta wasn’t the chatty type. “Okay, I’m just gonna go shower now.”
“That’s a good idea.”
Thankful for a reason to leave, I snatch up the bag Addie left and hurry out, making my way to the bathroom. Inside, I close and lock the door behind me. There’s a shower and tub combo on the left, and a sink and chrome cabinet along the other wall. Dumping out the contents of the bag, I find everything I need, and I quickly turn the water on, strip off Luca’s t-shirt, and hop into
