Reclaiming Quinn - Parker Williams Page 0,22
caught by the Alpha in Chicago. Quinn’s body in the river. Each chilled him more than the last, until he couldn’t stand it anymore. If Gareth didn’t like it, he could pretty well fuck off. Deke’s mate was out there, and he would move heaven and earth to get Quinn back.
“Did you need help, sir?”
Deke turned to find a young man in a smart uniform smiling down at him. “I need a taxi.”
“Of course, I would be happy to help you. Can you let me know where you’re going so I can direct the driver?”
Quinn had no money that Deke knew of, and he doubted he would get into a car with someone he didn’t know.
“I need the nearest park that has a decent-sized woods.”
He chuckled. “In Chicago? We don’t exactly have a lot of wooded areas. We do have the North Park Village Nature Center. It’s a forty-six-acre nature preserve. Not much in the way of trees, but it does have some nice open areas and would be wheelchair accessible for most of it.”
Gareth had said he was in the park, and if Deke knew Quinn, he’d want somewhere quiet to think.
“Thank you. That sounds perfect.”
The guy smiled. “Okay, give me about fifteen minutes, and I’ll have it pull up outside.”
“Thank you… um, I’m sorry, I don’t know your name.”
“Rupert, sir. People call me Rupe. Believe me when I say, it’s my pleasure.”
Deke rolled to the door, and, as promised, fifteen minutes later a cab pulled up. The driver opened the door and stepped out.
“Nature park?”
“That’s me.”
“Okay. You need help with the chair?”
“I can get into the car if you can stash the chair in the trunk.”
It took a bit of wrangling, but Deke got into the car. Once he was seated, the driver reached in and patted Deke down, taking his phone out of his pocket. Before Deke could protest, the driver closed the door behind him. Once he had it shut, he walked around and got in on the driver’s side.
“Hey, what the fuck is going on here? Give me back my phone. And what about my chair?”
The driver glanced up into the mirror and caught Deke’s eyes. “Don’t worry, you’re not going to be needing either. Alpha Klein is anxious to meet you.”
A cold chill ran through Deke. “Alpha Klein?”
“The Chicago Alpha. Your brother’s mate has been causing him no end of trouble. With you, he’ll be able to get the alleged Supreme Alpha off his tail.” He winked. “Sit back and relax. We won’t be long.”
Oh crap. He thought Deke was Quinn.
“Where are you taking me?”
A wicked grin. “To your new home, of course.”
Quinn, I’m so sorry. If this keeps you safe, then I’ll do it for you. Stay well, baby.
The cab pulled into traffic, and only then did Deke smell it. Blood. Lots of it. He’d been so focused on Quinn, he hadn’t registered it until that moment.
“Where’s the driver?” Deke demanded.
“Oh, you’re feisty. Not what Alpha Klein said you were like.” He grinned, and it chilled Deke. “Let’s just say the driver won’t be needing a tip.”
They’d killed the driver to get to Quinn? Goddess, was Sean right? Were most Alphas rotten to the core? Whatever. He would never let them get their hands on Quinn, no matter what happened to him.
Deke only wished he’d gotten the chance to let Quinn know how much he loved him.
QUINN INHALED deeply. Even in a polluted city like Chicago, nature was there if you knew where to look. The park was lovely. A little too manicured and perfect for Quinn, who liked the roughness of the woods, but it was still a balm to his—
Quinn, I’m so sorry. If this keeps you safe, then I’ll do it for you. Stay well, baby.
He jolted up. Why had he heard Master’s voice? And why was he so sad? Had what Quinn done hurt him? His stomach clenched at the thought. Master had been good and kind, more than anyone else in Quinn’s life, and he’d assaulted him.
A moment later, panic filled Quinn. No, it wasn’t what he’d done. Something was wrong. He hurried out of the park and rushed back the way he’d come. His heart seized with every step. Master was in trouble, Quinn was certain. He kept running faster, his pulse thundering. When he got to the hotel, he realized he didn’t have a key. He was about to go to the desk when a familiar voice called out to him. He turned and found Lyram
