Reclaiming Quinn - Parker Williams Page 0,21
Ryker. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Deke reached for Quinn, but he stood quickly. “Quinn, wait.”
Quinn turned and rushed out the door, then headed down the hall to where he remembered the elevators were. He had to get away before he hurt Deke. The idea that he could have done to Deke what had been done to him terrified him.
He would die before he’d let that happen.
Chapter Six
“NO! FUCK, fuck, fuck!”
Deke slammed a hand on the arm of the chair. How had this gone so horribly wrong? One moment the heady feeling of Quinn demanding Deke’s submission, and the instant Deke gave it, there was so much horror he knew had to be Quinn’s, because Deke was the happiest he’d ever been.
He hurried down to the lobby, hoping Quinn had gone to sit somewhere quiet, but he couldn’t see him, and his scent was faint. Deke was certain Quinn had left the building, and now he was wandering the streets of Chicago without Deke to protect him. He reached into his pocket and fumbled for his phone. This couldn’t be happening. He couldn’t lose his mate. He pulled up the contacts and was about dial when it rang. He pressed the button and held it up to his ear.
“Hello?”
“What’s wrong? Where’s Quinn?”
Of course Sean would know something was wrong. Not only was he the only adult Omega in existence, he had also been the Moon Mother’s vessel for many years. Deke went through the story quickly, throwing in multiple apologies for failing him.
“It’s not you, Deke. It’s always going to be Ryker. From what you’re saying, it seemed that Quinn was responding to you.”
“Do you have any idea where he might be?”
“I wish I did, but I’m not omniscient. I can feel his fear, though.”
“Give me that phone.” A moment later, Gareth’s gruff voice came on the line. “He’s in the park.”
“What? How can you…. Oh, yeah.”
All wolves were under Gareth as Alpha Supreme. As he had of the pack when he was the Alpha of Lydon, Gareth now had a sense of all wolves everywhere, but Deke didn’t know he could track someone that closely. Deke assumed it was all background noise so as not to overwhelm him with the thousands of voices in his head.
“He’s scared, but not for himself. He thinks he’s hurt you. He’s afraid he’s becoming like Ryker.”
“Fuck! I thought…. No, never mind. It doesn’t matter. I have to go find him.”
“I’ve already got the plane waiting, so Sean and I will be there in a few hours. Lyram is probably going to be there before we are. You are not to do anything until we arrive.”
What? Fuck that. “He’s my mate!”
“Yes, I know, but you don’t know what’s at play here. Sean and I have been trying to nail down the Windy City Alpha for over a month, but he keeps bouncing around from place to place. By the time we get there, he’s gone. Why the hell did you have to choose Chicago?”
“Because Quinn wanted to see it! I asked, and he told me he’d seen Chicago on television, and this was where he wanted to come. I didn’t know you were having issues here.”
Sean’s voice boomed in from the background. “Gareth, stop that. He’s already freaking out.”
“And you think I’m not? Quinn’s my brother-in-law, and he’s in no shape to be out there by himself.”
Deke stroked a hand over his head. “I’m sorry. I wish I could do something to make this right.”
“I think you’ve done enough. I’ll call some of the people I trust and have them start looking. You sit and wait until we get there.”
Which meant that Gareth didn’t trust Deke to handle this. Not that he could blame him. He’d promised to keep Quinn safe, and he’d failed his Alpha, the Alpha Mate, and his own love.
“I’m sorry.”
Without another word, Gareth hung up. Deke dropped the phone on the table and rolled his chair to a nearby window, where he stared out at the enormous city. Somewhere out there, Deke’s mate was alone, scared, and freaking out. And it was all down to Deke, who thought he could deal with the trauma that Quinn had undergone.
“I’m so sorry, Quinn.”
As if the breeze carried a whisper, Deke heard Quinn’s voice. “I’m sorry, Master.”
“Quinn?”
Nothing. It had probably been wishful thinking on his part, because he was so desperate to hold Quinn again. Scenarios of what could be wrong played on a loop in Deke’s head. Quinn hit by a car. Quinn
