been closed. No matter what he said about it being impossible for anyone to see through them, she wasn’t comfortable walking around after dark with the windows uncovered.
Gypsy and Baxter were waiting for her when she came out of the bathroom. They started the night in their dog beds, but by the time morning rolled around, they were sharing the four poster bed with her and Reece. He complained, but she noticed he never did anything about it.
She was sitting on the bed towel-drying her hair when he stepped through the door. His eyes took in every detail of her appearance. That he liked what he saw was obvious. Five and a half months into marriage, and he could still make her blush.
“Now here’s a sight any man would want to come home to.”
“It’s a sight you’ve seen many times.”
He put down the bag in his hand and moved closer to the bed. “It could be a million times, and it still wouldn’t be enough.”
“What’s in the bag?”
“A marshmallow blaster.”
“Owen already has one.”
He dropped down beside her on the bed. “I know. This one is for me.”
“Great! Twice the marshmallows to pick up.”
He slid the strap of her blue camisole off her shoulder and trailed his lips across her bare skin. It never failed to turn her into a quivering mass of Jello.
There was something she should be asking him. What was it? “Oh! Are you hungry? I can make you a sandwich.”
He lifted his head. “It’s not food I want.” He took the towel out of her hand and ran his fingers slowly through her hair.
“Keep that up, and you’ll put me to sleep,” she told him.
“That’s okay. I know how to wake you up.”
She couldn’t deny that. His creativity in such matters was truly amazing.
“Before either of those things happen, I need to tell you something. I got a call from the attorney in Arcadia this afternoon. Piper and Daniel’s house sold. He’s going to overnight the papers for me to sign. I’ll have to make a trip down there to clean out the house before closing. It would probably be easier on Owen if he stayed here.”
“I agree. If you want me to go with you, Aunt Leigh won’t mind babysitting.”
“I definitely want you to go. We need to see if those huge biceps and ripped abs of yours are good for something other than eye candy.”
His lips twitched. “You’ve done a whole lot more than just look at them.”
She laughed. “They’re like the icing on the cake. Anyway, I’d like to put the proceeds from the house in Owen’s bank account. It’ll make a nice start for his college fund.”
“I was hoping you’d let me take care of his college expenses.”
His offer left her momentarily speechless. “That would be wonderful, Reece. Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me. There’s nothing unique about wanting to provide for my family. While we’re on the subject of Owen, there’s something else I’m hoping you’ll let me do. I’d like to adopt him.”
Robin couldn’t hold back the tears. “Oh, Reece,” was all she could get out through her quivering lips.
He wiped away her tears with the pad of his thumb. “Does that mean you’re okay with it?”
She put her hands on either side of his face. “I’m more than okay with it. I can’t imagine anything better. And it will mean so much to Owen. He adores you.”
“I love him, too. I don’t want him to feel that he isn’t as important to us as the other ten children we’re going to have.”
“Ten? If that’s the case, we better get started.”
He lowered her back on the bed, his lips hovering just over hers. “No time like the present.”
