Night Kissed (Chosen Vampire Slayer #1) - Mila Young Page 0,79

of Seth in the ensuing frenzy.

Perhaps fittingly, my thoughts were consumed with someone else.

Logan, where the fuck are you?

Chapter 27

Veronica

Logan had me up against a tree, my legs around his waist, arms encircling his neck. At first, the rough bark of the trunk bit into my back and shoulders through my clothes. I felt my skin and clothes threaten to tear with the slightest friction.

“Wait.” I tore away from his kiss breathlessly. “I can’t do it like this. The tree will shred me.”

Half of me expected him to shrug it off and keep going. I could feel his hardness pressing between my legs after all. To my surprise, he paused long enough to lift me away from the trunk and wrap his huge black wings around my body. The feathers were cool and soft. I sank gratefully into them.

“Better?” he murmured.

“Yeah.” I ran my fingers up into his shoulder-length hair and pressed my mouth urgently to his. “Thanks.”

He responded by cupping a breast and pinching my hardened nipple through the fabric of my top and bra. I moaned against his lips, lifted my hips to grind myself against him. The way in which we were positioned made it easy to be as close to him as possible; every muscle in his body seemed to ripple against me.

I dug my fingers into his back and shoulders, savoring the intense, unyielding pleasure. Logan’s grip tightened on the back of my thighs. He kissed me until I couldn’t breathe. My back arched against the tree trunk. The moan that left my throat turned into a kind of carnal growl.

His mouth caressed my neck greedily. The tremor of his arousal traveled all the way through to the tips of his wings. The feathers flared around me. For a moment, we were wrapped up entirely in each other. We’d only kissed, but I knew if we didn’t stop, this would end up leading into something else completely.

I broke from our kiss, needing to remember my mission and not the desire I couldn’t shake. “Maybe we shouldn’t do this.”

Then he was letting me down carefully onto legs that were still shaking. I clung to him and laughed sheepishly. “I didn’t mean for that to happen.”

“Do you regret it?” He brushed the hair from my eyes.

I looked up at him and noticed that it had started to snow, very lightly. Delicate crystals adorned his ash-gray hair and eyelashes. I let myself sink into those ice blue eyes and how incredibly gorgeous Logan was. But there was so much more to him than he allowed me to see.

“No.” I told the truth.

Logan smiled, then frowned. His demeanor changed completely. “Orion is calling.”

I sighed. “Of course he is.” I pulled out my phone to check it. Surprise—a bunch of messages from everyone’s favorite clanmaster. “He tried to get in touch with me too…”

“Seth is in trouble.” Logan spoke dispassionately, but I heard the resignation in his words. “We need to recover him.”

“That makes it sound like he’s dead,” I said, unable to hide my alarm.

Logan showed no emotion. “Maybe he is.”

Logan traced Orion to the outer edge of downtown. The place looked abandoned, a squatter’s dream hovel. On the approach, we could already see a whirlwind of activity inside. “What the fuck is going on in there?” I muttered, mostly to myself.

“Let’s go.” Logan broke into a full run and sprinted straight for the doors. I kept hot on his heels. My trusty knife hung in its permanent place on my belt, but the closer we got, the more serious things appeared to be. My dire assessment was only confirmed when a body came smashing through one of the windowpanes. I dodged just in time to watch it hit the ground and sprawl grotesquely, held up at an awkward angle by the jagged end of an improvised stake.

“Yeah, okay. Some shit is really going down.” I leaned into my run, reaching for a palm-sized silver cylinder hanging next to my pocket. “Time to bring out the big guns.”

Inside, the warehouse was a chaotic mess. Vampires ripped at each other in the near-total darkness, snarling, hissing, shrieking. I saw thatches of hair and skin littered around the floor, even severed limbs and chunks of bone. You know, I thought, in case I forgot they were fucking monsters.

Logan darted into the chaos.

As soon as the vamps smelled living blood, a group turned toward me and came in a maddening rush. My skin crawled, but I pressed a button on the side
