in there. I don’t want anyone messing with my gear.”

“Won’t the resort employees have access to the safe?”

“I have instructions on how to choose my own code.” After he changed the code and stored his bag inside the large safe, Owen grabbed his phone to text Brody and Zane. “I need to check in at home. After that, I’ll call Gonzalez. He’ll expect me to contact him soon. I think at least one person watched as we walked to the cottage.”

“That explains the invisible spiders crawling up my back.”

He eyed her thoughtfully. “Always pay attention to those spiders, G. They might save your life one day.” Owen wrapped his arm around Gigi and drew her against him. “You’re doing great,” he whispered. After indulging in a short kiss, he sent a text to Brody and Zane to let them know he and Gigi had arrived at the resort, then called Gonzalez.

“Yeah?” was the gunrunner’s greeting when he answered the call.

Guess etiquette wasn’t high on his priority list. “It’s Owen Michaels. My wife and I arrived at the Loera Resort a few minutes ago. When can we meet? I’m ready to complete our negotiations, then spend time with my wife before we return home.”

“You’ll be contacted soon.” Gonzalez ended the call.

Gigi grinned. “Well, we know he’s not a motormouth.”

Owen laughed. “Ready to go to The Surf Shop to find new swimsuits?”

“Can’t wait. You know how much I love to shop.” Gigi rolled her eyes. Shopping was G’s least favorite thing to do with her time unless she was shopping for her B & B.

After another kiss, Owen escorted her from the cottage and down the path to The Surf Shop. Inside, they found several rows of swimsuits to choose from.

“What about this one?” Gigi held up the black one-piece suit.

“You’ll look beautiful in that.” He selected black swimming trunks for himself. “Do you need to try the suit on?”

She shook her head. “The size is perfect. I just want to get out on the beach and walk along the shoreline. I hope we can walk on the beach tonight.”

Owen captured her mouth with his. When he eased back, he said, “I can’t think of anything better than seeing you under the light of the moon. If I have a meeting tonight, we’ll walk on the beach when we return. Deal?”

“Sounds perfect. If it’s late enough, we might have the beach to ourselves.”

He hugged her. Good grief. Gigi was good at this undercover gig and made the job easier for him. “I like the sound of that.” Owen took their swimsuits to the counter to purchase them.

When they returned to their cottage, Owen went through the same routine, checking for cameras and listening devices. Pleased no one had broken in and added electronics this time, he said, “Go change into your swimsuit.”

“Shouldn’t we wait for Gonzalez to contact you?”

“That’s what he expects.” Owen’s lips curved. “He needs to learn he’s not the apex predator in this deal. His lackey can find us or wait until we return.”

“I love your alpha side, Owen. I always feel safe with you.”

“I’ll never let anything happen to you.” Losing this woman would gut him. He turned her toward the bedroom. “Go change. I’ll meet you in the living room.”

Owen quickly changed into his swimsuit. He left the guest bath and pressed his back against the wall beside the cottage’s picture window. Easing the curtain aside, he peered out, checking for anything that changed in the past few minutes.

A shifting shadow caught his attention. Owen’s lips curved. There he was. Gonzalez might have other men watching them besides this guy. Owen would have at least two people keeping an eye on a new buyer.

Five minutes later, Gigi walked into the room.

He turned away from the window and froze. Gigi looked beautiful and seriously hot. Keeping his mind focused on his task instead of her would take every ounce of discipline he possessed.

“Do I look okay?” she asked.

“You look gorgeous. I’ll be fending off other men stupid enough to make a move on you.”

Gigi’s eyes lit. “I want to enjoy my time with you, not bail you out of jail.”

He snorted. “You don’t have to worry, love. Money talks loud and long around here.” Owen held out his hand. “Come on. I’m ready to show off my beautiful wife.”

He opened the door and stepped out first to scan the area before reaching for her hand. “Stay on my left side,” he murmured.

They walked along the wooden planks of
