clock on the wall, then looked back at her staff, her heart glad she had these people working with her. “Okay, everyone, head home and be ready first thing in the morning.”
She locked the doors after the others left, promising she was leaving soon as well. She just wanted to take a moment to be alone in the clinic. She wandered through the rooms, the equipment and spaces clean and disinfected. The supplies in the cabinets and closets were in order. The pharmaceuticals were carefully stored and had been checked so that she could make her report to Hunter.
She wandered through the empty exam rooms, her mind filled with the many animals she’d treated and the clients she’d comforted. She stood at the door to her office and thought of the older veterinarian who’d built the business, Tom, who’d continued it until greed set him on a different path, and now it was Hoofs and Paws… her very own.
Closing the door, she locked the building securely and turned, startled to see a black motorcycle parked in the front. A large man sat astride, his thick, jean-covered legs extended to either side, and his worn, black boots firmly planted on the pavement. A faded T-shirt covered muscles but allowed his tatted arms to show. A black leather vest with patches sat easily on his wide shoulders. His helmet was off, and his thick, dark, wavy hair hung to his shoulders, a blond streak in the front falling into his face. A scruffy beard covered his jaw, and reflector glasses covered his eyes.
“Looking for a ride?”
His low voice rumbled from deep inside his chest and it jolted straight through her. “With you? Always.” She laughed and ran toward him as he shoved his sunglasses up onto his head. The lines on either side of his eyes deepened and a white-toothed smile spread across his face.
She stopped at one of his legs, her hands moving to clutch his cheeks as she kissed him. It only took a second for the kiss to flame hot as it always did. Tongues tangling, they drank each other in.
Finally, pulling back, her chest heaved as she dragged air into her lungs.
“Damn, babe,” he groused. “I was going to take you for a long ride, but now, I just want to take you home.”
“How about the camper? Far enough for a little ride, and there’s a bed with the sound of the Bay at the window.”
His lips curved again, and he jerked his head toward the back. “Then climb on, babe, and hold tight.”
With more practiced ease, she swung her leg over the seat and squirmed until she was pressed chest to back, crotch to ass, wrapping her arms around his waist.
With a roar, they launched out of the parking lot heading to their past… and their future.

About the Author
I am an avid reader of romance novels, often joking that I cut my teeth on the historical romances. I have been reading and reviewing for years. In 2013, I finally gave into the characters in my head, screaming for their story to be told. From these musings, my first novel, Emma’s Home, The Fairfield Series was born.
I was a high school counselor having worked in education for thirty years. I live in Virginia, having also lived in four states and two foreign countries. I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for thirty-five years. When writing, my dog or one of my four cats can generally be found in the same room if not on my lap.
