Let Me Find Your Omega - Ashe Moon Page 0,28
curious, and I was feeling more comfortable with the idea than normal.
“Elise said something about me getting a reading. As part of her training, or something?”
Kole perked up. “Oh, yes.”
“I dunno about my daughter reading my future, especially with how obsessed she is with the idea of fated mates. It doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
“Indeed, yes. She’s far too inexperienced to be giving readings, especially involving mating. But she could learn from the divination papers that I create from your reading.”
“It’s not something I would normally consider doing,” I said. I was making excuses again out of habit. “But…if it’s to help Elise out, then I guess I’ll do it.”
Kole startled me by jolting up to his feet, and his glasses nearly flew off his face. “You will? Wonderful! There won’t be any charge, of course, since it’s part of Elise’s training. Can you come to my office on Sunday? I don’t schedule appointments that day, so I can work with your schedule.”
“Sure, Sunday,” I said. “Do I need to do anything to prepare? Meditate? Play with one of those crystals you gave Elise?”
He shook his head. “Just arrive with no expectations.”
“Zero,” I said. “I honestly don’t think there will be anything to tell me. Some people are lucky with love. That’s never been me. Single for life.” I was trying to be self-deprecating, but it was true. I could imagine a lot of things about my future, but a relationship just wasn’t one of them.
“Well, that’s still an expectation,” Kole said, smiling.
We finished our meals and he took our plates inside while I stood at the balcony with my tea and looked out across the rooftops. The skyscrapers of Mir’s business district towered in the distance, and a blimp with a flashing sign advertising the upcoming Clash of Fighters Championship title match drifted by like a lazy whale swimming against an inky sky.
“I found the tools.” Kole appeared next to me holding a small leather pouch.
“Let me see what I can do with them,” I said, taking them from him. “Face me.”
I looked into his eyes and examined how the glasses sat on his face, making note of what I needed to adjust. Then I reached up and gently removed them. He blinked at me, half-squinting. I opened the toolset and used a small pair of pliers and a screwdriver to adjust the fit.
“That’s quite impressive,” he said. “I’m not very good with things like that. Leave it to me and I’d probably snap them in half.”
I laughed. “I had to learn pretty quickly. Elise destroyed so many pairs of glasses when she was little. I needed to learn to fix them or else we would’ve gone broke replacing them all the time. There we go. That should hold you over until you get a new pair.”
He put them on and moved his head around, and the glasses held fast. He lit up. “Thank you!” Then, out of habit, he reached to push them up with his fingers and laughed. “It’s going to take me some time to get used to them not sliding around all the time.”
Kole was adorable. Standing here next to him, being so close to him, I couldn’t deny that I felt something for him. And I knew that I had to get that under control—nothing would or could happen; after all, Kole had told me that he couldn’t be in relationships because of something to do with his work. But, admittedly, it was pretty nice to know I could still feel some amount of anything for another person, even if it wouldn’t go anywhere.

I peeked over the balcony railing and watched Markos disappear down the street to where he’d parked his car. I sighed, touched my glasses and remembered they’d been fixed, and then went inside to pour myself another cup of tea. The gift bag was sitting on the counter, and I pulled out the tissue wrapping paper and the cup and sighed again.
That was fun. More fun than I’d expected. He was very thoughtful, very enjoyable to be around…
I boiled another kettle, topped up my new ceramic cup with water, and plopped a tea basket inside. Honey gold tendrils seeped out, and I bobbed it a few times until the water had entirely changed color and smelled sweet and delicate. I wondered how Markos’s ability colored how he experienced the world. We both had special abilities, heightened senses.
I’d vowed to sacrifice love to keep my abilities sharp, but maybe it
