toward her. “Or…if you wanted to be here so we can maybe pick up where we left off the other day, then I’m more than willing to oblige.”
Damn, did that sound good.
His hand came up and caressed her cheek.
Sydney’s eyes closed as she allowed herself to simply enjoy the feel of his hand on her. She let out a low hum, and even without seeing him, she knew he moved closer.
“Syd?”
“Hmm?”
“Can I?”
“Can you what?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper. She opened her eyes and found Kyle leaning his head toward hers.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Yes, please.”
I’m in trouble…
Yeah, the moment Kyle’s lips touched hers in the softest kiss ever, Sydney knew she was lost. They moved together slowly, lazily, to get closer, and when his arms gently banded around her, she was more than willing to melt against him. He didn’t try to move or maneuver her; if anything, he barely moved. The kiss was languid and yet so perfect that it almost brought tears to her eyes. It was as if he was explicitly being careful with her and—not for the first time—she thought she had perhaps misjudged him. Maybe he wasn’t such a bad guy. Maybe he was just a ridiculously attractive man who knew how to treat a woman now that he had finally grown up.
And man, did his kisses still turn her inside out.
Sydney had no idea how long they sat there sipping at each other’s lips, but she knew she’d be more than happy to keep doing it all night.
Liar…
Just as that thought hit her, Kyle’s lips moved from hers to pepper her cheek with kisses before lightly nipping at her ear. She shivered with delight as his forehead rested against hers.
“Mmm,” he hummed, low and gruff. “That was better than I remembered.”
Sydney felt herself blush. “I’m glad you think so.”
“I do. I really do.” His words were a little slurred and she could tell he was tired. As much as she wanted to spend the night with him—especially after this bout of sweet foreplay—maybe it was smarter to wait a little. He hummed again. “What time is it?”
“After midnight. I’m sorry I came by so late. That was rude of me.”
“Don’t apologize.” His hand came up to caress her cheek again. “I’m glad you called.”
Why lie?
“I am too. It just…” She paused and thought about what she was going to say. “This just feels a little…weird.”
He stood and held out a hand to her. “Then we’ll have to do something to make it a little less weird.”
And the thing was, he wasn’t making fun of her or making light of the situation. His expression was serious and intense and there was no way she could deny him. This was going to happen. He was just bolder than she was and he took matters into his own hands.
Sydney stood and was immediately enveloped in Kyle’s arms. He didn’t kiss her, he simply held her. “Not weird, right?” he whispered.
And she shook her head. “Not weird at all.”
Slowly, he turned them and led her to his bedroom and helped her to lie down. When he joined her, his arm went around her again to hold her close. “Still not weird, right?”
Okay, maybe now he was making a little fun…
“I keep telling myself that it’s you and this is all so familiar, but…it’s not. We’re older and have had completely different life experiences over the last twelve years. But when we’re like this, it’s like no time has passed.” She laughed softly. “Sorry. I’m rambling a bit.”
“Just a little.” He kissed her forehead. “Are you looking for things to be the same? Because it might take a little time, but I could probably scrounge up an old Pontiac Grand Am and we can climb into the back seat.” Another kiss. “Or I’m sure we could get a room at the Magnolia Inn. They don’t charge by the hour anymore, but hey…I think we’re worth the cost of a full night.”
Unable to help herself, she laughed and poked him in the ribs. “Ugh…way to ruin the mood.”
In the blink of an eye, she was flat on her back with Kyle stretched out on top of her. “The last thing I want to do is ruin anything. Give me thirty seconds and I guarantee I’ll have the mood completely back on track.”
“Wow, somebody’s a little confident in their abilities.”
But he shook his head. “I just remember what you like.”
Sydney’s eyes went wide. It wasn’t possible for him to
