Kansas (Ruthless Kings MC Atlantic City #2) - K.L. Savage Page 0,22
all of us here at the clubhouse wanted to give you your space until you felt better. I’m Scarlett. I’m engaged to Boomer, the man who is in charge.”
“The President. That’s what Kansas said.”
“Yes, that’s right,” Scarlett says, tucking her espresso-colored hair behind her ear. She’s pretty, with big blue eyes and a soft smile that would make it easy for someone to trust her. “You must be Violet.” Her eyes land on me, and I push my sister’s back a bit more.
“How do you know my name?”
“Kansas updates us on how you’re doing. Plus, he says you have wild curly hair and the prettiest eyes he has ever seen, so it has to be you.”
I blush from the unexpected compliment. “He said that?”
“I think you’ve got yourself a fan,” Scarlett winks at me.
I shouldn’t be so excited to hear that, but I am. I have some sort of feelings for Kansas, and while I don’t know what they are just yet, I know they make my heart speed up. He’s kind, smart, and obviously brave. All qualities that any woman would be attracted to.
Oh, and let’s not forget how handsome he is.
He is so gorgeous. I’ve never seen a man look like him. He even has a nose ring, a small hoop that sits snug against his nostril. I’ve never been attracted to a man who looks like Kansas. My Dad would tell me guys like him are bad news, and I always believed him.
Until now.
“I think he might have a fan too.”
I’m pulled away by my thoughts of Kansas when Scarlett gives me a cheeky smile while handing me a plastic bag. I scoff. “I don’t even know him.”
“He’s one of the good ones.”
“We aren’t here for you to get a boyfriend, Violet,” Veronica smarts off, snatching the plastic bag from Scarlett’s hand.
“Hey, don’t be rude to her. She’s helping us. They aren’t the enemy.”
“God, a guy gives you the smallest amount of attention and you turn into one of those girls.”
I narrow my eyes at my sister. “I’m not one of those girls. I’ve spent the last few days with Kansas, and he has been nothing but kind to me. You need to stop being such a bitch.”
“Okay, all of you are pretty testy right now, for good reason. You’re exhausted, hungry, and probably feeling a bit weak. I know you’re sad too. Your emotions all over the place, so I’ll let it slide.”
Scarlett squats down and her elbows are on her knees as she looks us over. “Listen, we are the nice guys, but we don’t handle bullshit very well. If I were you, I’d drop the attitude. We are helping you, using our resources, and I’m bringing you clothes that actually fit. Shower. Change. And then Boomer wants to talk to the three of you. Just follow the hall down until you get to the main room.” She stands, leaving me swallowing to coat my dry throat. “What are your names again?”
“Veronica,” my sister croaks.
“I’m Victoria.”
“Well, I’ll give you a heads up about Kansas. He’s been through enough to not get flack from teenagers such as yourselves. I know you’ve been through a lot, but I have a family to protect too, and Kansas is a part of that. He doesn’t go around getting googly-eyed over hair and eyes with every woman he sees. He isn’t like that. I expect you all to be out in the main room in fifteen minutes. Lunch will be waiting, okay?”
“Thank you, Scarlett. We appreciate the gesture. I’ll talk to my sisters about using their manners.” I accuse Veronica with a hard stare.
“Sorry,” she mouths.
“Great. I’m glad you ladies are feeling better.” Scarlett straightens to her full height and throws her hair over her shoulder as she leaves, leaving the door open behind her.
I stand up, annoyed and pissed off at Veronica. I lift the bag in the air and then bring it down, slapping her with it.
“What…stop!”
“I can’t—” I hit her again “—believe you!” the plastic crinkles when I raise the bag over my shoulder and swing it on top of her head.
“Ow! Violet, that hurts.”
“I don’t care if it hurts. You are being unbelievable. After everything we have been through, after everything they have done for us, and you act like that?” I lift it one more time and Victoria slips in front of her older sister blocking my attack. “Get out of the way.”
“I think we all just need to calm down and take a breather
