were here and took delivery. I believe Mum has even washed the brand new sheets you chose, and made the bed up with them. But – and forgive me if I’m wrong here, I was rather hoping that sleeping wasn’t something we’d be doing a lot of tonight, new bed or not.’
‘You’re not wrong, Chance. You’re absolutely right. And if I might make a suggestion, could we possibly save the proposal until midnight? That way you’ll have proposed to me this year and also next year too.’
‘I think that’s a brilliant suggestion.’
‘And in the meantime, why don’t we go and try out your new bed? We may not be able to see the stars but we can watch the falling snow instead.’
He grinned at her. ‘That’s also a brilliant suggestion.’
‘And when I say, watch the falling snow, you do realise I mean after we’ve got naked and had at least three hours of passionate sex, don’t you?’
‘That’s exactly what I was hoping, Molly. But why stop at three hours? After all, we’ve got all night. And once you’ve said, yes, we’ll have the rest of our lives.’
‘I definitely love the sound of that. Just one more thing.’
‘Yes?’
‘May I see the ring again, please?’
‘Nope. Not until I propose properly. You said that was what you wanted. Which reminds me. I left the champagne in an ice bucket on the kitchen island. I’ll just go and grab it.’
‘You can grab it later, Chance. Right now, I really need you to grab me. And when I say grab, what I mean is–’
‘I think I know exactly what you mean, Molly. I may not be much good at interior design but there are a few things I do know how to do, especially on a brand new bed.’
‘Excellent. Oh wait! I’ve thought of something else I need to ask.’
He laughed and shook his head. ‘What’s that?’
‘Does this mean that we’ll be living here? Because I really want to live here. I adore this cottage almost as much as I adore you.’
‘I was really hoping you’d say that. But what about your business? Can you run that from here?’
‘I can run it from anywhere. And as Sarah told me, people in Easterhill need interior designers just as much as people in Bristol.’
‘I totally agree with that.’
‘Oh. Just one final thing.’
He pulled her into his arms and his blue eyes sparkled with love and laughter and happiness.
‘Yes, my darling Molly. What is it?’
‘Does this mean we can adopt Miracle?’
He laughed even more. ‘Absolutely. Although I think we may have to share him with Mum and Beauty.’
‘I’m okay with that. Happy New Year’s Eve, Chance.’
‘Happy New Year’s Eve, Molly. I’m looking forward to a lifetime of New Year’s Eves with you. Anything else you want to ask?’
She shook her head and beamed at him. ‘Nope. Other than, when am I going to see your new bed?’
‘Right now.’
He swept her into his arms once more and carried her upstairs to the master bedroom. The bedroom Molly had designed in both of their favourite colours: pink and blue. Almost as if she knew that she would be sleeping in it with Chance.
But then, she did always pride herself on the fact that, deep down, she always knew exactly what her clients wanted. It just so happened that this time, it was what she wanted too.
