craved him filled her mind. “So, tell me about you, Jack. What do you like to do when you’re not running Eidolon and chasing bad guys?”
Chapter Seven
Jesus he was going to die, go nuts with the need for a woman, who up until now, had driven him crazy. He must be sick or maybe he’d been working too hard because at this moment he’d give up everything he owned to taste her. The sound she made when she bit into the burger had hit him hot and hard, like a lash of hunger or more like starvation.
He’d never had trouble controlling himself, but with Astrid, it was as if seeing a different side to her had opened a portal, and now he was like an addict hanging on her every word. When that sleaze had grabbed her thigh and not let go when she tried to make him, he’d almost lost his mind.
Every fibre of him had wanted to drag the bastard outside and break every bone in his hand for daring to touch her. It was unlike him to be so possessive, especially towards a woman he’d only kissed once and on a job for the Queen no less. Even now his blood boiled at the memory and then, like a balm, the slight dip of her head in thanks had left him feeling like a King.
He’d saved people from drug lords, from killers, helped governments overthrow dictators, had killed more people than he cared to admit. Yet a smile of thanks from a woman who was more than capable of handling herself had made him feel more than he ever had before.
“You can’t moan like that if you want me to stay sane.”
“Why not?” She licked the juice from the burger off her fingers before looking at him, and his dick throbbed against the pants of his tux like a heartbeat.
“Because when you do all I imagine is you naked with my hands on you, my tongue tasting every part of your sinful body.”
He saw her eyes flare, the pupils dilated in the firelight and knew the slightest encouragement and he’d have her under him, so he could play out all the ways he’d dreamed of making her come. He saw the second she closed off and respected her for protecting herself. He was dangerous and had nothing but the present to offer her, and she deserved more. He didn’t know any more about her now than he had before he’d reread her file, but she had a depth he’d failed to see before. That was his loss because now his eyes were open, and he liked what he saw a lot, and not just the pretty package on the outside.
“Okay, Jack.”
She turned back to her food, and thank God kept her moans to herself. He began to eat, hungry after an evening working and being alert.
“So, tell me about you, Jack. What do you like to do when you’re not running Eidolon and chasing bad guys? Do you have any hobbies?”
The question brought him up short. He’d spent so many years working his ass off building Eidolon into the best it could be that he didn’t really have any interests. “Will you think I’m a boring workaholic if I said I didn’t have time for anything else?”
“Workaholic maybe but not boring.”
“I guess I spend so much time wanting Eidolon to be the best and running the different arms of the organisation that I don’t have time for much else. I work out to keep myself fit for the job, but I wouldn’t call it a hobby.”
“You should delegate more.”
“I know but I like to be in control.”
“Yeah, I noticed that.” She smirked, and he grinned, wanting to kiss the smile from her face until she was as dumb with desire as he was.
“What about you? What are your hobbies?” Astrid blushed, and it made him more intrigued. “Come on, don’t be shy. I told you about my hatred for the sea.”
She sighed. “Fine but no laughing at me.”
Jack held up his hands in supplication. “I promise.”
“I like to knit. Not scarves or granny sweaters but arm knitting, where you make throws and rugs and such.”
“I have no clue what that is, but it sounds cool.”
She cocked her head and the firelight caught the twinkle in her eyes. “You’re teasing me.”
“I’m not, I genuinely don’t know what it is.”
Astrid scooted closer to him and pulled out her phone and the picture app. “Here, see?”
Jack tried to ignore how
