Connor: Why don’t you just come over tonight as well, I would love to see you, babe.
I couldn’t respond to it. I mean, he’d want to know why I couldn’t come over. My best course of action was to ignore the text message and pretend I hadn’t seen it. I mean, I didn’t want to lie and say I was at my parents because I wasn’t. And it wasn’t like I could say I was going on a date with another guy and spending the night. I mean, Connor was cool, but was he that cool? As I approached Lucas’s building, I put my phone back in my handbag.
I was excited about the evening and getting to know him better and frankly, I wanted to see if he could loosen up a bit more. Yeah, he was handsome and yeah, we had fun, but there was an excitement that came with Connor that I didn’t feel yet with Lucas, and I wasn’t sure it was fair to either of us to continue on in the relationship if I wasn’t feeling it as much as I should be. I walked into the lobby of the building and walked up to the doorman and let him know I was there to see Lucas.
“One moment, ma’am,” he said and called up. “He’ll be right down to get you.”
“Okay, thank you.” I walked over to the elevators and waited for Lucas to come down. He was down within a couple of minutes and grinned. “Hey there, beautiful,” he walked over to me and gave me a big kiss on the lips.
“Hi.” My heart fluttered as I stared up into his brown eyes. He was so handsome. I reached up and touched his silky brown hair that was flapping against his eyes. “What have you been up to today?” I said.
“Not much,” he shrugged. “Had lunch with my family. The usual. How was your family gathering?”
“Crazy as normal, bustling, Greek,” I laughed, “but it’s always fun to be with family.”
“Yeah, I agree. My brother seemed kind of distracted today, but we had a good conversation,” he shrugged. “Shall we go up?”
“Yeah, let’s do it.” We walked to the elevator and went inside. He pushed his key into the slot and pressed the penthouse button. It was so cool that he lived at the top of the building. I’d never known anyone that lived in the penthouse suite of an apartment building before. We walked into his apartment and once again, my jaw dropped in awe as I stared at the skyline of Manhattan through his floor to ceiling windows. This was an amazing apartment.
“So, I hope that you’re hungry.”
“Why? Did you make more spaghetti tonight?”
“No,” he shook his head, “I made something even better.”
“Oh, what’s better than spaghetti?” I laughed.
“What do you think about sushi?”
“You made sushi?” I was shocked. The man that used different bottles of spaghetti sauce to make pasta was making sushi, was this for real?
“Okay, I didn’t actually make the sushi, but I do know an awesome restaurant that delivers.”
“Oh, okay,” I laughed. “Yeah, that sounds great. I love sushi.” We walked over to the couch and sat down. “So how was your family gathering?” I asked him. “Tell me more about your brother. I know you said you guys are very different, but are you close? He lives in the city, right?”
“Yeah, he lives in the city. He’s very different. I think I told you we had a kind of crazy upbringing and I think that’s why we both sort of have our own little issues.” He made a face. “I’m very dedicated to my job and very professional. I want a family. I know I want my kids to have a stable life and my brother, well, he’s just all about having fun.”
“Oh, I can see where that would make you guys different,” I nodded. He placed his hand on my thigh and ran his fingers up and down.
“Yeah, but of course I love him. He’s amazing. And you know, he reminds me that I just need to enjoy my life.”
“Yeah?”
“Sometimes I can be too serious,” he made a face as he looked at me. “And I’m trying to lighten up a little bit, I hope you can see that.”
“I can see that,” I said. “I think you’re amazing.” And it was true, I did think he was amazing. I loved the fact that Lucas was open and honest, just like Conner. Yes, he was
