It's Complicated - J. S. Cooper Page 0,29

had on cheap, plastic or decaying shoes, they didn’t care about their appearance, and they didn’t care about themselves and their words. But if they had on nice shoes, expensive leather shoes especially, they cared about what they presented to the world, as in overall appearance, and it seemed to me that Connor cared.

I walked up to him. I was holding my breath in, trying to hold in my little belly and did a little strut that I’d practiced before I’d got here.

“Hi,” I said as I walked up to him. “Connor, right?” I held my hand out. He looked toward me and let out a low whistle as he looked me up and down.

“Well now, you must be Gemma.”

“Yeah, hi,” I blushed at the deepness of his voice and the steamy sexy look he was giving me. If there was such a thing as sex on legs, Connor was it.

“You’re beautiful,” he said as he stepped toward me and then kissed both of my cheeks as if we were on the continent.

“Absolutely stunning!” he said as he stepped back, “I’m a lucky boy.”

“I guess you are,” I smiled at him, batting my eyelashes. Hey, I loved a compliment, what girl didn’t? I wasn’t sure if he was being sincere or not, but I’d get to know that soon enough. “I hope you haven’t been waiting long.”

“Oh, not at all.” He looked me up and down again and I could feel my arms tingling.

“Sorry, I was just admiring your dress.” Very, very flattering.” He looked down to the hem. “And very short. I like that.”

“Oh yeah. Why do you like that?”

“Easy access.” He laughed at the expression on my face. “I’m just joking Gemma, sorry.”

“That’s okay, I just... I don’t really know what to say to that.” I was a little taken aback. That was a lot more forward than I’d been expecting.

“I know, I had to try it though. I mean, if I’m honest, if you would’ve responded with, ‘Yeah, let’s go around the back or get a room.’ I would have said, ‘Let’s do it, right here right now, I’m good to go.’ But you’re a classy girl and I like that.”

“Yeah, I guess so. I mean, does it make me a classy girl just because I don’t go to have sex with a guy I met two minutes ago?”

“Trust me, it does,” he winked.

“Shall we go inside?” My face turned red.

“Yeah, I think we should.”

We walked inside the hotel and entered a lobby. I looked over at him because I wasn’t sure where to go. There was a piano all the way to the far left and I started heading toward it.

“No, that’s the public bar.” He grinned. “They play jazz there too, but we’re going to a cooler spot. Follow me.” He grabbed my hand and then led me down a small corridor and then to some stairs. We walked down the stairs and then we came to a little hallway.

“One second.” He stopped, looked at me and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

“Whoa, what was that for?”

He grinned. “I just wanted to have at least one kiss with you, because if we don’t hit it off and the night doesn’t go well, obviously you’re not going to give me a kiss at the end of the night. And I think I’d die if I never got to learn what your lips tasted like.”

“Oh, wow. Well, what did you think?” I smiled at him, licking my lips nervously.

“I think that wasn’t a long enough kiss for me to figure it out. Can I have another one, please?”

“Actually, I think not, Connor,” I said with a small smile, teasing him. “I think you have to earn a real kiss from me. And if you’re man enough and good enough, then you’ll get one.”

“I see, I see,” he smirked. “If I am man enough and good enough, huh? Well, it seems like you’ve just issued me a challenge, Gemma.”

“I believe I have, Connor.”

“I think I’m man enough to take that on,” he grinned, “I think by the end of the night, you’ll be wanting to do a lot more than kiss me.”

“We’ll see,” I said and pressed my hand into my hips to stop my fingers from shaking. Oh my God, he was sex on legs and he was a flirt and he had already kissed me and wanted more. I didn’t want to tell him, but his lips had felt amazing; warm and sweet with
