time dating this man if you’re not sexually compatible. If he doesn’t get you into the o-zone? Get the hell out of there.”
“Jeez, we’re only going to dinner.” Ember’s entire body was flushed at the mere suggestion that she could fall into bed with Kai.
“I’m just telling you my truth, Ember. Do you, but also remember that your time is precious. If it doesn’t work out, swipe left and move on.”
Cinder, just like Sparx, had many suitors. They were both beauties who attracted all kinds of male attention, but it never went anywhere. The other two Brady sisters had been told multiple times that they were too picky when it came to guys. Still, Ember could appreciate the no-nonsense attitude her sisters had about dating. They were grown women with careers and dreams. If a man didn’t support them and hold them up, if a man couldn’t be a good partner — in and out of the sheets — what was the point?
Ember had a feeling Kai would be the kind of man to really take care of her needs, both in and out of the bedroom. She didn’t say that to her sister, choosing instead to tug at the bags of clothes she had never opened before.
Kai had joined a televised baking competition to ensure Ember didn’t have to back out. That said a lot about the man. Ember was pretty darn sure that frosting cakes wasn’t in Kai’s job description. It gave her hope that maybe, she’d found the butter to her cream.
Chapter Ten
Kai
No sooner had he knocked on Ember’s apartment door than it swung open. Seeing Ember always made him happy, but the excitement in her features softened his heart. Add to it that she looked good enough to eat, and Kai knew he would have been completely lost to this woman, even if she hadn’t been his mate.
“Hey, love.”
“Kai.” His name was a breathless whisper, making him shiver with need.
He was going to have a hell of a time trying to keep his hands to himself.
But why should we try to do that? She’s our mate. Take her up against the wall. She won’t mind. Don’t you smell that? She wants us. So bad. Just as much as we want her.
“Are you ready to go?”
Her nod was slow as her eyes took him in. He hadn’t ever been one to pay close attention to what he wore. Jeans and thermals were his go-to. Tonight, for Ember, he had made an effort. His jeans were black, and he had paired them with dress shoes, a suggestion his sister-in-law had made. He had paired the lower half of his outfit with a green knit sweater that, apparently, brought out the color of his eyes. Once again, he had Carmen to thank for the suggestion.
If it meant that Ember would be devouring him with her eyes all night, he didn’t mind.
He would be doing the same thing to her.
Ember was wearing a pale pink flowing skirt which hit her at the knee. The white top she wore gave him a glimpse of the bra she was wearing. He was curious to know what kind of underwear she wore under the skirt.
I hope she isn’t wearing any.
Kai didn’t know who had the thought, him or his lion.
It didn’t matter. Now that he imagined her bare, he couldn’t get the image out of his head. Ember was so damn beautiful, it made him stupid with lust. Shit, it made him stupid with love.
The mate bond was so strong, he was pulled into her center of gravity, always on the verge of mauling her with kisses.
Reading his mind, Ember lifted herself up to the tips of her toes and kissed his cheek. The contact was soft and brief. Gone way too soon, but it had ignited something in him. Kai took her by the waist with one hand while the other went to the small of her back so that he could crush her in his arms. She melted against him with a moan. He swallowed the delicious sound as he kissed her. His tongue took a swipe across the seam of her mouth before she let him in. Their tongues tangled, leaving them panting into the kiss like half-crazed lovers. His cock was punching painfully against his zipper, begging to be added to the mix.
It couldn’t happen
Not yet.
Kai wanted to take his mate to bed. He wanted to lay her down on the bed and make love to her. But first,
