Heart Of Darkness (Transfusion Saga #10) - Stephanie Hudson Page 0,55

I stepped closer to him and said,

“Can I request to speak to you privately?” The King’s eyes widened in surprise for just a flicker of a moment before that amused smirk started playing at the corner of his lips. It was as if he had known this was coming, and I just hoped it wasn't him getting the wrong impression or believing another reason for this was of a seductive nature. Because no way! I mean yes, the guy was undeniably hot, handsome, and powerful enough to shift into a freakin dragon for the Gods be damned sake! But he wasn’t my Lucius, and he was the only man candy I was addicted to and always would be.

“I had a feeling you were going to ask me that,” he admitted, making me blush, and again I was tempted to point out that talking was all I was interested in but then he spoke again before I got a chance to.

“I will tell you what, Princess, go into your room and lie on the bed.” My blush quickly turned into a crimson flame and I opened my mouth, realising the blunder I had made and tried to stop it in a mumble of words,

“No, I… well, I didn't… that's the last thing, I just wanted… no, not the last thing, because well, not that there is anything wrong with your erm thing… oh Gods, please stop me now.” He laughed heartedly at this, before stepping closer and said on a chuckle,

“Calm yourself, all I want from you right in this moment is for you to rest. For if we have this conversation any longer you will faint in my arms and I will have no other choice but to carry you to bed, something I fear your well-spoken friend may not feel so forgiving about… for he's listening by the door and waiting for me to leave.” This last part he whispered down by my ear and I could hear the smile in his voice that made me shiver.

“Ah, I see,” I replied lamely, making him smirk down at me.

“I will call on you when the time is right, and when I believe you are well rested… good day, my lady.” At this, the King bowed his head slightly and turned to walk away without saying another word. This was when I said,

“It’s alright, he’s gone now, my virtue is safe,” before listening for what I knew was coming. Meaning I grinned to myself when I heard the door close next to mine as Vern was now assured the King had left. I shook my head and chuckled before I did what I was ordered by the King to do.

I slept.

Like the dead

Waking up in a room that literally looked like you were now living in a fairytale, naturally made me believe I was still dreaming. That was until I felt the aches in my legs that had me questioning the pain, because I didn't need anyone to pinch me to see if I was awake, as all I needed to do was stretch out my muscles and that did it for me. I sat up on the incredible carved bed I had been sleeping in and one that I had literally fallen into, still fully clothed.

But it was always funny how that happened, how the adrenaline just kept you going over and over and over again until finally someone said stop. And when you did, it meant that it was like game over the second your body knew that it could relax. It became an impossibility to move again until it was rejuvenated and re energised, which thankfully, I now was.

However, it also made me look down at my dirty crumpled mediaeval style dress that I was now so desperate to get out of, it wasn’t even funny! I needed a shower badly. In fact, I felt like I needed ten of them! Or just something a little more substantial than standing in a bucket and having Trice throw water over me before being able to sit in a tub.

“Gods in heaven, please let there be a bathroom… please let there be a bathroom,” I said to myself as I took in the rest of the space around me, something that barely even registered before I'd fallen asleep. As for the room, it also had me questioning what time of day it was or if the sun went down far later here than in the human realm, because daylight was
