Hammered (Blue Bay Crew #3)- Cathryn Fox Page 0,24
from our shoot location and sleeping with him during filming, and then dumping his sorry ass before riding off into the sunset, alone. The Owens boys are nice, and I don’t want to see her hurt any of them. Although I suspect Jared isn’t the type looking to settle down, so maybe the two can have a little hook-up fun.
“I’ll see what I can do.” I fill two paper cups with coffee, remembering from our breakfast around the old oaken table this morning that the boys all drink their coffee black. I carry them over. Honestly, it was fun sitting around the table with them, although I only had a few minutes, but listening to them all carry on like brothers filled my heart with warmth. It’s hard to believe they don’t have any sisters. “You guys looked like you could use a cup,” I say.
They both graciously accept and thank me. “Hey, Jared,” I say and don’t miss the way Tyler’s eyes are drilling into me, like he has something on his mind. “My friend over there, Olivia. She wanted me to say hello.”
A big, goofy adorable grin spreads across his face, and I’m sure he has no trouble finding women on his own. “Thanks for letting me know.” He goes back to sorting lumber, and I turn to Tyler, and try not to react to his close proximity, or how his scent of pine and testosterone turn me into some sort of nymphomaniac. But yeah, I want him again.
“What’s going on with him?” Tyler asks and gestures over my head. I turn to see Mason talking to the lighting guy. “Seemed like he was giving you a hard time.”
“No, it’s not that,” I begin, a little surprised by his protective side, even though I shouldn’t be. “It’s just, well…” I really hope I’m not overstepping here. Tyler is doing enough for me as it is, and I feel like a jerk putting his name forward without asking first. “He wanted to know if you would be open to helping our leading men with the fight scene.”
“That’s not really what I do,” he says. “Besides, I’m busy building some structures for the set. Sean put me on these projects.”
“No worries, bro.” Jared wipes his brow with his forearm. “Carter is about to finish up on the Mackenzie cottage. I’m sure he could help if you’re needed elsewhere.” Tyler glares at his brother. “What? You’ve got a problem with Carter helping?” he asks with a smirk.
“Fuck you,” Tyler says and Jared laughs. The two are clearly sharing some inside joke. “I’d ask Jace, but he’s been hired as cook for the crew. He’s set up at Gram’s. Cast and crew will be headed there for all their meals.”
He runs thick fingers through his damp hair and my body tingles, awakening in awareness. “All the more reason for me to get out.”
“What’s that?” Jared asks.
“Nothing.” He turns back to me, and stares so long and hard, I begin to fidget under his questioning green eyes. “Is this important to you, Haven?”
“In a sense, yes. I suggested you, because...” When he arches a brow, I hold my hands up and say, “Because he was in a bind. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have put your name out there without asking.”
He takes a drink from his paper cup, and glances around. “Coming to Mason’s rescue gives you points, huh?”
I make a mental note never to try and pull one over on him. Not that I would ever want to deceive him. But the man is intuitive, that’s for sure. “Yeah, again, sorry to use you like that. I can’t lose this job—”
“Why?” he asks, his question cutting off my train of thought and totally catching me off guard.
I blink several times as he waits for me to explain. “It’s my life, Tyler. I’ve been acting since I was four months old. I’d be lost if I wasn’t on set. You of all people must understand that, coming from the cage. Fighting is your life. I mean it was, and I guess now you’ve found a new purpose. But I don’t have…” I let my words fall off and he arches his brow as I go on the defense. Why the hell am I getting all worked up? He was just asking a simple question. “If you don’t want to—”
“I never said that.” His voice drops an octave as he scrubs his chin.
“So you will?” I ask. The muscles along his jaw ripple, and I
