Hammered (Blue Bay Crew #3)- Cathryn Fox Page 0,23
my stance on that. Although I doubt I would have done it with any other man. Just then, Shannon walks by and I give her a smile. I don’t want to talk about my sex life in front of her. She’s in her early fifties, with a daughter my age, and I’m sure she’s not interested in hearing about my sex life. She always played younger, so twenty or so years ago, I have no doubt she would have had the lead in this romantic comedy. She was huge in her day—Hollywood elite—and I’ve admired her for years. She’s one of the people who’s always been truly nice to me. Her daughter hasn’t quite achieved Shannon’s success. I like her though. We were in a movie together a few years ago, when I mistakenly fell for the leading man, which created chaos on the set, and our ugly breakup landed on all the front-page spreads. Ugh. I wish I could forget that mess. I’m sure the cast I worked with at the time could too. They were all hounded by the paparazzi, which proved unfavorable for them all.
Olivia gestures with a nod after Shannon disappears. “What’s the story on his brother, Jared?”
I shrug. “I don’t really know him. Only met him for a few minutes,” I say, as Mason, our director, comes over to us, mumbling curses under his breath. He came in after I’d gone to bed last night and both he and Jonah were gone before I made my way downstairs this morning. According to Gram, she fed them both before they started their day.
“Is there a problem?” I ask, and a shiver wracks my body. Tyler’s asked me that question a lot in the last twenty-four hours.
“Yeah, our damn choreographer for the fight scene broke his arm motocross racing.” He pours a cup of coffee and frowns. “I suppose I could get Feldman.”
“I actually think he’s on his honeymoon,” I say. “Didn’t he just get married?”
Mason looks at me. “Right, shit.” His gaze lifts, locks on mine. “Any ideas?”
“Actually, yeah,” I say. I shift until I’m once again looking at Tyler, and as if feeling my eyes on him, admiring his big arms as he reaches for a piece of lumber, his head lifts. I quickly turn back to Mason. “What about Tyler Owens? You know, The Hammer.”
He nods like the pieces are falling in to place. “I thought I recognized him. What the hell is he doing in Blue Bay? Wait, didn’t your brother steal his title?”
“He didn’t steal it, he rightfully won it, and this is his hometown.”
He gives a half laugh, half snort. “Yeah, I’m sure he sees it that way too. Watch out for him, Haven. There’s a lot of hatred between the two.”
I stiffen at the warning, although there’s nothing for me to be worried about. Tyler is a nice guy, doing me a huge favor. What’s between my brother and him doesn’t extend to me, right? I shove that thought away and say, “As a former MMA fighter, I’m sure he can help us put together a fight sequence.”
He scrubs his chin, and his brown eyes narrow, the way they always do when he’s running something through his mind. “Not a bad idea. Do you know him?”
Intimately.
“I met him at the house last night.”
He plucks a croissant from the tray of breakfast sweets. “Good, make it happen.”
“I’m not sure—”
“Make it happen, Haven,” he says, the finality in his voice shutting me down. Always the pleaser, always the girl to do what she’s told, I nod and watch him walk away. I sigh, forgetting Olivia is there until she speaks.
“That guy is an asshole.”
“Yeah, well. He’s taking a chance on me. It’s not like I’ve been in demand lately and I really need this movie to be a blockbuster.”
“Yeah, I know, but if he talked to me like that, I’d tell him to fuck off.” She pops another bite of muffin into her mouth and I wonder what Haven would do, the real Haven, the one I don’t know. This Haven, the actress, goes along to get along. Acting is all I know. Without it, I’m nothing. Sometimes I even wonder if I enjoy it anymore.
“I guess you’d better go charm lover-boy. While you’re at it, get the deets on his brother, for me.” I’m about to tell her no until she turns those pleading eyes at me. I like Olivia, I do, but she has a habit of picking a local
