gun to your head and pulled the trigger yourself. Gammon is a might protective of his pack.”
“Even in the best of packs.” A voice whispered. Keith whipped around to see a stranger standing in the clearing where no one had been just seconds before. Holding Halo in front of him he demanded. “Who the fuck are you and where the hell did you come from?”
Dacron laughed and pointed toward the sky. “Dacron, I am expected, and I came from out there.”
Turning he studied Hendrix for a moment more. “You have the taint of the Calian race. You are not a Calian, merely half. Less than that you would be nothing at all. Your children will be like you. Tell Gammon it was a pleasure doing business with him, as always.” Dacron turned from the scene in front of him and took three steps before a wavering doorway opened up as the spaceship became visible for a moment. Stepping through the door he disappeared.
Hendrix looked down at Gracie who had ceased struggling and was staring blankly at the area where Dacron had disappeared. “What the fuck was that?”
Hendrix’s lips twitched as he told her, “Vampire.”
Keith, still holding Halo in front of him, snorted the snort turning into a chuckle then a full throated roar of laughter. “Oh man, you should see your face little girl. What? You think werewolves exist but you draw the line at vampires?”
“I think I would like to sit down now.” Halo told him as he collapsed toward the ground.
Keith shook him before letting him fall, “Would you now. Suits me. You don’t have long to live anyway. Might as well spend your last hour of life sitting on the ground.”
“Keith?”
“Yeah?”
“Shut up. Gracie, darling, are you alright. You have lost every bit of color.”
“She is probably going to be sick again. Been sick for days. Better let her turn over if you don’t want it all over you.”
He gently turned her and pulled her hair from her face. “Why has she been sick? What the hell did you do to her? You are suppose to take care of her for me.”
“For you?” Keith and Halo echoed at the same time.
“Let me go. I’m not yours. You low down dirty rotten no good for—” retching sounds filled the air as Gracie lost the battle to keep the food in her stomach.”
“Keith, bring me a bottle of water.”
“What the hell for? She is just going to die when Gammon gets here.”
“If you don’t get her some water you will die before Gammon even leaves his house. Wait a minute, what do you mean before Gammon gets here. I told you not to call him.”
“Well you were too late. Do you honestly think I would watch someone shoot at you and not call Gammon? Have you lost your ever loving mind? Mia would have my head on a platter and Gammon would strip the flesh from my bones if I let something happen to you.”
“I was never in danger.”
“She tried to shoot you. She did shoot me.”
“Other than that I mean.”
“Other than that? Other than that? Do you know how pissed my mate is that I got shot? She wants this little girl’s head on a platter too!”
“Fuck! Did you tell the entire pack?” Hendrix snarled at him.
“I couldn’t very well keep my mate from feeling me get shot now could I?”
“Fucking hell.” Hendrix leaned back on his heels and helped Gracie sit up. As soon as Gracie had her balance she dove for the gun.
“Damn man, she wants you dead pretty bad.” Keith said as he watched Hendrix pull Gracie back and wrap his arms around her. “You know, they have books that could help you in the bedroom if you are so bad she feels the need to kill you for your lack of ability.”
“What to do about you now.” Hendrix muttered while ignoring Keith.
“Let me go. That’s what you can do you fucking monster. Let me go.”
“Well now, that is one thing I can’t do. Now hush and let me think.”
“Hush and let you think?” Gracie struggle to free herself and managed to get one hand on her knife, pulling it she jerked her arm backwards before the knife was pulled from her hand and thrown.
“Will you stop trying to kill me long enough for me to figure out how to handle this situation?” He glanced over at Keith to see the shifter had turned pale. “Just a flesh wound, Gammon won’t kill you for a flesh
