get ready for the day while I return this to the kitchen? I?m taking you to the pack doctor to check the progress of your head injury.?
Jane nodded and said, ?Okay, I?d like to shower first.?
Dirk smiled and nodded, ?Alright. I?ll be back in about fifteen minutes. Maybe a little longer if the women in the kitchen question me any further about my mate.?
He winked at her and Jane blushed but she also felt proud for Dirk to tell them about her.
Dirk left for the kitchen and Jane headed for the shower. Minutes passed and provided Jane plenty of time to shower and decide what to wear. She decided on jeans and a tight-fitting t-shirt. She brushed the tangles from her hair and brushed her teeth, then put on her sneakers and sat on the bed waiting for Dirk to return. She knew that at least half an hour had passed, that must mean that the women in the kitchen were blasting Dirk with questions. She smiled at the thought, picturing him being stared down by a group of women, growing uncomfortable by their questions.
Dirk soon returned and held the door for her as she emerged into the hallway. ?I hope this doctor of yours will give me some good news.?
?I?m sure she will,? Dirk smiled at her, putting her at ease.
As they walked through the castle, Dirk studied some paperwork he?d carried in a folder. ?I?ve been neglecting some of my work,? he explained as he continued sorting through the documents.
They rounded a corner and a man appeared, walking in their direction. His eyes narrowed in on Jane and he detoured his path towards her with flaring nostrils. She turned to Dirk and saw him look up from his paperwork and lock his eyes on the man, although the man was still focused on her and not paying any mind to him. She panicked as she felt Dirk?s anger pulse from his body, his power reaching out like an invisible force that was prepared to choke the man. Not knowing what else to do, Jane stepped closer to Dirk, wrapping her arm in his and leaning her head on his shoulder. She watched the other man?s expression change and felt a change in Dirk as well. His anger faded, although she could still feel his possessiveness of her and he confirmed it as he pulled her closer and placed a kiss on her forehead. She stole another glance at the other man and saw him redirect his stare as he moved to walk around them.
The man disappeared behind them, yet Dirk still held her. She heard him sniffing her hair and smiled. She knew that she was going to grow used to this. Neither of them spoke of what had just happened, they only enjoyed the closeness they shared as a result of it.
At the end of the hall, Dirk stopped and knocked on a door. A feminine voice on the other side instructed him to come in, so he stepped inside and pulled Jane in behind him.
Jane looked around the room. There was a large desk centered in the room and four chairs along the wall in front of it. Shelves lined the wall behind the desk and held hundreds of books relating to medicine and biology. A woman sat behind the desk wearing the traditional long white lab coat. She was a beautiful woman with long blonde hair and big green eyes.
Dirk looked down at the woman, her beauty unrecognized in his eyes. ?Lena, das ist mein Kumpel. Sie spricht kein Deutsch.
She nodded and stood up from the desk, extending her hand out to Jane. ?Hello, I?m Lena. I?m the pack doctor.?
Jane shook her hand and smiled, ?I?m Jane.?
?So you are the mysterious she-wolf everyone has been talking about??
Jane bit her lip. ?That depends if what you?ve heard is good or bad.?
Lena laughed, ?I haven?t heard anything bad. Just gossip. Everyone is trying to figure out who you are and where you came from.?
?Well if they figure it out, please tell them to let me know,? Jane replied lightheartedly, although she meant what she?d said.
Lena laughed and motioned for Jane to follow her out of the office and into a hallway. ?Delta, I?d like you to wait here.?
Jane followed the woman up the hall, glancing over her shoulder at Dirk who was obeying the doctor?s request, moving to sit in one of the chairs, although Jane could feel that he wasn?t happy about it.
