Lexi is incredible too.”

The shiver comes with a killer smile. It’s enough for me. I pull her in the building and mash her hand on the keypad, mine follows it. We’re in, on the elevator, then walking the hall before she makes a sound. I’m glad it’s a giggle. In my office I don’t wait, she’s bent over the desk and I lift her skirt. I love the skirts someone ordered her. That’s not what I say. “I love that you’re smarter than me.” Dropping to my knees I show her how much I fucking love it.

Chapter Seven

Two days

Alexia

I can’t be late. They have golf carts here outside of training so I take one to the smart car hub. Akai is on his tablet by my car. I think he likes riding with me. I like riding with him. I never learned to drive and sitting in a car that drives itself so fast was scary. Having someone to talk to makes it less scary. Now the speed doesn’t bother me. It’s still nice to have someone with me. I’m getting used to people around and miss them when they’re not close. I don’t really like being alone, but never knew how to talk to everyone and didn’t know who would hurt me. Now I’m not afraid of everyone and love people around me.

“Akai, I took too long drying my hair. I won’t wet it in the shower next time.”

He nods. “We have time. Leave now, we have seven minute.”

“Oh, that’s good. Late isn’t good.”

He nods and opens my door for me. I always know my car because it has a BSC West logo license plate that has a pink glow around it. The Alpha-Bits put LED lights on it for me. All the other cars have blue lights on the bottom at night without license plate LEDs. My lights at night are pink like the license plate. Carmen said she had pink light too. She made them change it to dark blue. She didn’t want light blue like everyone else or pink like the other women. Maybe I can get purple. I’ll ask Web.

“Alexia Ford and Akai, IT building.” The car starts and Akai pulls his tablet out again.

I click the button for Security to know I’m leaving then watch as we start. There is no wheel for me to turn or pedals like the golf cart. I’m glad the car knows how to drive itself. The controller that clips into the dashboard looks like a video game thing. Web showed me but I don’t touch it. It’s only for emergencies.

Akai puts his tablet down. He’s mad. “What’s wrong?”

“Four Alpha-Bits Gosau. Mucimi right. Guards same to jail. Wire, cuts?”

“Barbed wire?”

“Cuts? Sharp steel?”

I nod. “Razor wire. They have that at the jail here?” I saw inside the jail from body cams, not the outside.

He nods. “Outside wall. Office not office. Too many guards.”

“The men won’t care. I saw the feed from the one Alder went on. It had lots of guards that didn’t bother them at all. They went right in with people shooting everywhere.”

He nods. “I Ops Control with Web. Alder crazy go to Ops. Gear no plate. Guards shoot Brothers no feel. Plate to keep safe.”

Holy moly. That’s bad. “He doesn’t have Ops gear?”

“Plate too heavy to Alpha-Bits.” His sad eyes don’t like that.

Men are crazy. Alder went knowing he could get hurt. “I hope he doesn’t go on this one.”

“He go. He chat me to Ops Control he go. Boss Justice partner.”

I bite my thumbnail and he pushes my hand down. “We work. Keep Alder safe, Alpha-Bits, Brothers safe.”

“You’re right. They’re going to go. We need to do the job. Marks said that’s what we do.”

“Marks smart. Time to work.”

I watch the turn the car makes and feel relieved. The building is safe and helps keep everyone else safe. I like working here. I smile. It’s like it says on it, Protect. We go right to Ops. The boards in here have everything from every Club on it, then where the techs are watching. Phoenix has a plane on tracking. I look at Akai. “They’re already up?”

Akai pulls his glasses case out nodding then sits at the Control seat. Web left early. He said it was an Ops call. I guess this is the Ops call. Pulling my glasses out, I check my chats and email. I’m not on Ops and have no orders so I go to my office.

The chats I have are techs from surveillance.
