Fire Maidens Scotland (Billionaires & Bodyguards #6) - Anna Lowe Page 0,81

I need this.”

Still, he gazed into her eyes. “Mating is forever. Mating is…”

“Perfect. Exactly what I want. And why not?”

Lachlan broke into a tiny smile. “Why not isn’t a good reason to plunge into something.”

“Plunge. I like the sound of that.” She thrust her hips up, making him groan. Then she froze. “Don’t you want this too?”

He cupped her face. “I want this. More than I can say.”

“So, quit thinking. Trust your heart. Listen to your mate.” She flashed a smile. “And no regrets.”

Lachlan’s eyes sparkled, and he dipped his head. “You, my mate, are wise beyond your years.”

She smiled. “I had the best mentor. But I really, really don’t want to think about him right now. Just you and me.”

He chuckled, then kissed her, mumbling against her lips, “Just you and me.”

The kiss grew deeper, and their bodies started to rock again. Then he went back to her neck, and her blood rushed.

Right there. She could feel the exact spot calling to him, the same way she sensed a thump in his neck. The one that would guide her in placing her own mating bite the moment he was done.

His canines extended, and he gripped her hands tightly. Ready?

She held her breath. So ready.

Well, she thought she was. But when he bit down, she arched right off the bed. His teeth slid in smoothly, as if there were two tiny openings already there, ready for her mate. Lachlan sealed his lips around her skin, took a deep breath, and—

Fire raced through her veins. Real fire. Just a tiny puff, but it felt like a bonfire igniting her soul. Behind closed eyes, she saw a red-orange-yellow swirl, and every nerve fired from his heat.

Mine, those flames said. You are my mate.

She tipped her head back, letting him puff a second and third time. Lachlan went back to pumping his hips, pushing her deeper into a cloud of ecstasy. She moaned, letting the flames swirl through her. Then he stiffened and held on, every muscle straining.

Mine, his dragon boomed in her head.

Holly gripped his hand. Yes, she was his. And he was hers.

How long she wafted in a world of clouds, flames, and pleasure, she had no idea. Only that she’d never flown that high in her life.

When Lachlan softened his grip and eased away, she nearly cried out in protest. No! Don’t let this end.

It won’t end, something told her deep inside. It’s only the beginning.

Lachlan kept his lips sealed around her skin well after retracting his teeth. When he pulled back, he smoothed a finger gently over the already-healing wound.

She shuddered with an aftershock, then practically melted into the sheets. Even as the high faded, a bone-deep sense of satisfaction flooded into its place.

Lachlan lowered his body over hers, weighing her down in the very best way. He lay there like a lead blanket, panting quietly in her ear.

“Sorry,” he murmured a moment later. “Can you even move?”

“I don’t want to move. Ever.”

He laughed. “Good. Nor do I.”

At some point, though, he rolled aside. But that was fine too, because he wiped them off with the sheet and snuggled her close, locking her between his arms and chest. She threaded her fingers through his and briefly considered all the uncertainties still facing them. All that, and damn. She really had to take Mungo for a walk soon. But right now…

She closed her eyes and let herself drift in happiness for a little longer. Just her and her mate.

Chapter Twenty-One

“Wow. This is where the Guardians hang out?” Holly asked.

Lachlan nearly laughed. Guardians didn’t hang out. They spent tireless hours pondering serious business, just as they had for hundreds of years.

Still, she had a point. Dunwellen Castle did resemble an exclusive clubhouse. In a way, it was an exclusive club. With few exceptions, membership was hereditary, and the same insignia had hung from the rafters of the hall for centuries. The views were magnificent, with Edinburgh’s skyline on one horizon and the Firth of Forth straight ahead. The lawn stretched on for acres, the perfect place for young unicorns to frolic on summer nights.

He let the Austin roll to a halt. “This is it.”

He got out quickly, circled the car, and gave Holly a hand out. Not that his cowgirl needed any assistance. It was just nice to spoil her for a change. And spoil himself, in a way, by showing off his extraordinary mate.

His dragon sighed in satisfaction. He’d given her a mating bite, and she’d reciprocated a short time
