Fire Maidens Scotland (Billionaires & Bodyguards #6) - Anna Lowe Page 0,80

she’d helped avenge him?

Lachlan shook his head in wonder. “So many things, coming full circle…”

She gripped his hand. So true. She only hoped the surprises ended there.

She touched the packet of letters Trevor had left — the ones from Terence. Sometime soon, she would pick a peaceful spot, like under the yew in Burgess or beside the fireplace at Creag Aerden, and read every one. Twice. But right now…

She stared at the road ahead. Still too many unknowns occupying her mind. And one more task to carry out for Trevor.

Lachlan exited the highway and touched her hand as they passed Old Blaine Distillery.

Dragon’s Fire, she quietly corrected in her mind.

But mostly, they were silent as they drove to Creag Aerden, where Mrs. Killin doted on them like her own children. Sadly, they only had time for a short stop, most of it spent hiking up a hill with the urn. At the peak, Holly turned in a circle, taking it all in.

“Beautiful.” She gazed over the loch, the castle, and the surrounding Highland peaks.

“Beautiful,” Lachlan agreed, close by her side.

She’d never experienced such stunning weather in Creag Aerden, which helped keep her spirits up. Slowly, she opened the urn and watched as Trevor’s ashes danced gaily away with the wind.

“We’ll miss you, Trevor. Heck, I already miss you,” she whispered, wiping away a tear. “Even though I shouldn’t have to, because you’ll always be with me. Thank you for everything you taught me. Thanks for the wide horizons. And thanks for Mungo.”

Then she smiled and turned to Lachlan. “If Trevor were here, he’d be happy, don’t you think?”

Lachlan held her close and whispered in her ear, “Trevor is here.” He motioned in the air. “He’s in the whisper of the wind… In the song of your laugh… In the timeless stones of the Highlands. He’ll always be here. Ava, too. Maybe even Terence.”

Another few tears slipped down Holly’s cheeks, soaking Lachlan’s shirt. They stood there for a long time, closing their eyes and tuning in.

Then she sighed and looked around, wishing they had more time to think. But it was time to hit the road and get to Edinburgh.

“We’ll be back,” Lachlan promised her as they headed back to the car. “Soon.”

She looked around one more time, gulping hard. Soon.

By the time they made it to Edinburgh, her emotions were all over the place. The Guardians had called a crisis meeting for the next day, and she was already dreading it.

Look on the bright side, her dragon murmured. We finally get a night on our own with our mate.

That, they did, and she made the most of it. The moment they stepped inside the townhouse Lachlan’s family kept in Edinburgh and got Mungo settled with food and water, she got to work unbuttoning Lachlan’s shirt.

“No more phone calls.”

“No more thinking,” he agreed, sliding his hands over her rear.

“Nobody but us.”

Did it make sense to wash away real-life worries with sex at a time like that?

Abso-bloody-lutely, her dragon decided.

“Bedroom?” she murmured through increasingly hotter kisses.

Lachlan pointed. “That way.”

They left a trail of clothes up the stairs and down the hallway. Then they all but dove into bed, driven by pure need.

For years, they’d denied themselves that kind of release. And for days, they’d had to make do with hushed quickies with a mountain of worries on their minds. But now…

Holly wrapped her legs around her man, dying for more.

“Patience, lass,” he murmured, kissing her all over.

It was torture of the very best kind, submitting to his wandering lips… His tongue… His fingers…

She arched off the mattress, crying out. Loudly, for a change, because they had the whole place to themselves.

Lachlan’s eyes glowed in satisfaction. “Do that again.”

She laughed. “I will if you will.”

And they did, again and again.

Eventually, she hauled him up by the shoulders, desperate for more. Really desperate in a way she’d never been before.

Destiny, her dragon rumbled.

“Need you…” she mumbled, locking her legs around him.

When he plunged deep, she moaned in bliss. And when he started sliding back and forth, her voice shook with every cry.

“Yes…” she sang as he thrust deeper.

When he paused at one point, she nearly cried out in frustration. But that soon turned to a moan of pleasure. “Yes…”

Slowly, methodically, he slid his teeth along her neck. Her body tingled, and she closed her eyes, tuning in to the most blissfully erotic moment of her life.

“Holly…” he rasped, suddenly breaking off.

She drew him back to her neck. “Yes, yes, and yes. I want this.
