Finding The Lost Mystic Islan - Liberty Parker Page 0,49

on both your parts.” She grabs the stone, places it inside the blanket she’s now wrapped Scar up in before retrieving his diaper bag. “I will see you all in the morning. Goodnight, and goodbye,” she finishes as she turns her back and begins to march toward the door with Caspen hot on her heels.

“So, is that a yes, though?” I hear him ask as he follows her out the door.

“One night!” she replies with an elevated tone.

As I lie in bed watching Vaughn rock Emmaline to sleep, I fumble with the plastic that holds the contents that could very well crack this case wide open. What happened between Vaughn and Emmaline earlier? I saw and sensed something immediately, but what exactly, I’m not sure. But I will have those answers shortly.

My thoughts are scattered as they jump around with all the different scenarios that could play out if we don’t do everything exactly the way Glorianna warned us. We need a trusted witch, one that will know without a shadow of a doubt exactly how this needs to be handled. It dawns on me, Ariella is a witch, and if I’m not mistaken, the cousin of one of the gemstone owners. I can feel my eyes narrow just thinking that Caspen has probably already thought of this and placed a call to her.

Sitting up, I reach for my phone. “What are you doing, Trigger Underwood?” Vaughn’s voice startles me.

“That was fast,” I remark, looking over at our sleeping daughter then back at Vaughn.

“Yeah, I think I might just be getting the hang of this mothering thing,” she tells me with a confident grin plastered on her face. Drawing circles on my chest with the tip of her finger, she asks, “Again, what were you about to do before I hopped into bed beside you?”

My bear growls, fighting me on the urge to pursue placing a call to Caspen as he wants me to submit to our mate.

She’s all but shredding your boxer briefs. You have one job, now get to it. The workday is over. Playtime and mating are now.

Try as I might, the urge is much too strong, and I succumb to the desire and need we both have for one another.

Breathless and tired, she lays her head across my beating heart as I run my fingers through her hair. Having come back to reality, my thoughts begin to run amuck again.

“Vaughn?”

“Yes, Trigger,” she answers through a yawn.

“Did Em do something to you earlier? You know, when you sort of chastised Glorianna for rambling?”

“Yeah, actually. It was the strangest thing, although I know she meant no harm. She sort of zapped me I guess you could say to get my attention.” I feel her shrug. “I feel there’s more that she wants to communicate, but possibly just isn’t old enough, or strong enough to just yet?”

“That is odd. But, having a good sense of our little girl, I think you’re right. She would never hurt you. She would however do anything she could to ensure you’re protected and are getting the proper information. I don’t know, but I suppose we’ll make sense of that soon too.”

“I suppose.” She kisses my chest and I plant my lips on the top of her head.

It’s been a week since the opal artifact has been discovered. Caspen has been glued to Shyla and Scar whenever he and Trigger aren’t verbally sparring. The mating party for Glorianna and Dooly is in the finalization stages. All we have to do is send out invitations to the event of the century. Glorianna is a bit disturbed at how much of a grand affair I’m making out of this, but we need it to be huge in order to draw out our nemesis.

Trigger has been in a lot of closed-doors meetings, he and the elders strong holding one another, but so far, Trigger has won in his refusal to allow one of them to possess the grimoire. That’s right, Caspen attempted to convince the council that even that would be safest in their possession until this gets figured out. Alas, the council voted on Trigger’s behalf. And while I don’t feel that Caspen’s intentions are malevolent, I do think that this whole thing has become somewhat of a power struggle between these two alphas. But, Trigger’s right, and I’ll stand beside him through thick and thin—there’s a reason someone entrusted him with the ancient holdings. It’s not for us to argue. We need to play this
