The Fae King's Dream (Between Dawn and Dusk #2) - Jamie Schlosser Page 0,86

want to think about. Not now. Because now might be all we have.

Lowering my head, I kiss the side of Whitley’s neck before bending her over. I rub the head of my cock up and down her ass crack a few times. Then I fit my tip against her hot pussy.

I hover there, letting the anticipation build.

The urgency I felt the first time is absent, and I’m glad. I want to take my time with Whitley.

Sight is a wonderful thing with a mate this beautiful. The curve of her spine. Her wet hair plastered to the bare skin on her shoulders. The way her fingers grip the railing as she waits for me to give her what she wants. She’s utter perfection.

“Damon,” Whitley whines, wiggling her ass.

I chuckle, my own self-control dwindling. “You better hold on.”

I slide into her snug pussy with a forceful stroke, and everything else falls away. My world only consists of the two of us.

Right now, there’s no coven. No sadness or worry. No future and no past.

Just Whitley and me, getting lost in each other, the way it was always meant to be.

Whitley

Damon definitely got my mind off what happened last night. First, he fucked me from behind on the top deck. Then again in our cabin. Against the wall. On the floor. In the bed.

We were like unattended kids in a candy shop, and we couldn’t get enough of each other.

A few hours before dawn, we finally collapsed together, exhausted, naked, and sweaty. When I woke, I was disappointed that I was alone. I understood why, though. Damon and the other men have to prepare for the burning of the prisoners.

“Hello?” Astrid snaps her fingers in front of my face. “Are you listening to me?”

“Not really.” I give her an apologetic shrug, remembering I’m in her cabin, not mine.

Sitting on the side of Astrid’s bed, I bend down to grab a pastry from the breakfast basket Damon left for me in our room. Since I didn’t want to eat by myself and I needed to fill Astrid in on what I learned, I figured we could eat and chat before the day starts.

She puts her hands on her hips. “Where are we supposed to get Glow?”

“I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking you.”

“The stuff is dangerous. Just a few weeks ago, a Night Realm wizard blew himself up when he was experimenting with it for a spell. He was five thousand years old—wise and powerful—and now he’s just dust.”

“This isn’t for magic,” I mumble around a mouthful of food. “And I realize it’s seriously illegal, but I’m willing to circumvent the law this time, which is my right.”

Yeah, I’m throwing down the queen card. Sue me.

Heaving out a sigh, Astrid grabs an apple as she takes a seat. “How do you know this Glen character was telling the truth?”

“I don’t, but this is our only option right now. Either that, or I could try to anticipate when the arrow will be shot and throw myself in front of Damon.”

She looks at me like I’m a naughty kitten that just tipped over her favorite potted plant. “You’d die.”

“Not if it gets me in the arm or something.”

“It’s a terrible idea.”

“Then help me with this.”

“All right,” Astrid relents. “But don’t go sniffing around for Glow. Leave it to me. I’ll do some discreet investigating.”

My shoulders relax. “Thanks.”

Her teeth crunch into her apple. After swallowing the bite, she sticks a finger in my face. “In the meantime, don’t do anything foolish.”

“Okay, okay.” It’s kind of funny when she scolds me.

I can’t believe I was scared of her a few days ago. Sure, she’s intimidating if you don’t know her, but she’s actually a softie. She’d probably hate it if I ever told anyone that, so I’ll keep it to myself.

A horn blares, signaling the start of the ceremony.

Astrid stands while smoothing her peach gown. “It’s time to light the fire. How do I look?”

“Great,” I tell her, heading out into the hallway.

Behind me, she tugs at the skirt of my gray dress. “Why’d you choose such a drab color today?”

“Um, because it’s a funeral?”

“Oh, honey.”

“What?” I glance over my shoulder at her.

“You’ll find out in a second.”

When I get to the top deck, I see what she means. It looks more like we’re having a casual summer party. Everyone is in bright or light colors, even the guys. The black leather is gone. Instead, they wear white pants. Damon’s don’t fit him quite right, like the person
