inhaled sharply. Yeah. I probably hadn’t thought about just how perfect she would look in my bed. I muttered a curse and wrote a note next to her to take the medicine and water I left, just in case she woke before I could get back. I had a feeling she wouldn’t but who the hell knew how long this bullshit was going to take. I was starting to be glad I’d stocked up on natural medicine. Ever since meeting Ophelia, and later realizing she was fae I’d fought the internal battle on whether to tell her sooner than later. In the meantime, I’d made sure to have organic alcohol, food, and medicine on hand because I knew how sensitive fae could be to chemicals.
Taking the elevator back down, I narrowed my eyes at the two men sitting at the same table Ophelia had sat at only minutes ago.
“Good evening,” I offered as Rhys took a sip of his drink looking beyond annoyed.
“Adrian?” Rain asked slightly alarmed as I smirked, realizing he hadn’t known who owned the bar. I wasn’t exactly popular per se but everyone knew who I was. I think I had met Rain once when he was a bit younger. Although, I suppose it could have been more than that and I just didn’t remember. The years had started to blur together, well until I’d met Ophelia.
“Rain, Merrick,” I offered easily, “I’m surprised there are only the two of you.”
“The others are searching bars nearby,” Merrick offered.
I nearly chuckled at that because I think they had realized I knew exactly what was going on. I didn’t exactly have a reputation for missing details.
“Where is she?” Rain demanded and I had the sudden urge to put him in his place.
I couldn’t deny that fae were powerful but age and experience often beat raw power. I wasn’t concerned about Rain or any of the young men that seemed to think they were worthy of being close to Ophelia. I didn’t think I was good enough but let’s be honest, that wouldn’t change anything. I wouldn’t leave her alone, more so now that she knew what I was. What world we were part of.
“Upstairs,” Rhys offered as both men froze looking pissed.
“Don’t worry,” I rolled my eyes, “she is perfectly fine. More than fine actually.”
“We can take her home,” Merrick stated softly as I saw dangerous possessive magic right underneath his skin, shifting. I loved pixies, they were so fucking messy.
“No you can’t,” Rhys stated evenly, “she asked to sleep here, so she will be.”
“She’s probably drunk,” Rain’s jaw clenched, “she isn’t staying here.”
I chuckled softly, “What are you afraid of?”
“You know what,” he demanded, his eyes flashing towards where my fangs would be normally.
Ah, he was worried I was going to drain her dry. Instantly, my thoughts went to being between her legs…alright, clearly I needed to stay away from her while I was this fucking turned on. Who knew what I would do.
“She’s fine but I am very much over this conversation. I trust the two of you know your way out of my club?” I arched my brow. Before they responded I was walking towards the elevator, and when the doors closed, I relaxed slightly. Fuck. I didn't have time to deal with their bullshit.
I exited the elevator and headed through the apartment.
"Adrian?" a soft voice echoed down the hall as I neared my bedroom. I tilted my head as I came to stand in the doorway.
From the bed in the middle of the room, Ophelia's sleepy gaze searched the entire space before landing on me.
Fuck, she looked perfectly at home. Her eyes slightly blurry and tired, but still radiating beauty.
“You left,” she whispered, her face looking flushed. If I had to guess it was from her heavy clothing.
Instead of responding, I went into my closet and pulled out an oversized shirt for her.
Ophelia blushed and took it, running towards the bathroom as I kicked off my shoes and sunk into a chair nearby. When she came out I nearly choked. The shirt was a terrible idea, and even worse she crawled forward on the modern bed.
She looked at me expectantly. “Where are you going to sleep?” she asked with her eyes still a bit hazy.
“I don’t have to sleep unless I want to,” I pointed out softly.
“Oh.” A cute frown formed on her face. “I was going to say I didn’t mind sharing a bed--”
I was standing, kicking off my shoes, and sliding into bed before
