he might just rescind his offer. “Tell him tentatively yes. But I do have to talk to Chance.”
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Elle asked. “Everyone knows Wayne Rush is a bitch to work with.”
“You think I don’t know how to handle a bitch?” Jolene gave her sister a grin. “I grew up with you, remember?”
Elle rolled her eyes. Shane gave a crack of laughter.
“You shut it, Shane. The biggest bitch in our family is you,” Elle snapped.
He didn’t take the bait. He just shook his head and grinned.
“Listen, sis,” Shane said. “There is no tentative yes with a guy like Wayne. It’s yes or no. Call Chance right now.”
“I just did an hour ago. He didn’t pick up.” But even as she said it, she was reaching for her phone. The idea of cutting a record with a legend was what dreams were made of. She’d spent her childhood listening to Wayne.
Chance still didn’t answer but her lawyer called her back. “Yep, you’re being sued,” were the first words out of his mouth. “We have an interview with the cops tomorrow, too. They’re debating assault charges against the photographer and possibly your sister.”
Fabulous. She had a headache just thinking about it. She’d never had legal issues like this before. Taking an opportunity without Chance was a bad move and she knew it.
But she took the phone from Shane after he dialed the number to Wayne Rush’s manager.
Shit just got real.

Chance didn’t like the way the day was going. He was pacing back and forth in his living room, waiting for Jolene to come over. He had been told by Ginny that she was involved in an altercation with a photographer and he had been worried sick. He had several missed calls from her because he’d been in the studio testing out some of their new material.
When he had called her, she had texted she was fine and she just wanted to go to bed.
Jolene had finally agreed via text to come over but there had been no cute smiling emojis or hearts at the end of her sentence, the way she normally would. He missed those damn kissing emojis so hard right now it was ridiculous.
He felt like he’d done something wrong going to dinner with Tennyson because it had been the reason for the dustup in the parking lot, but JoJo had told him to go to dinner. Hell, it had been her idea.
The doorbell rang. The look she gave him was tired when he pulled the door open and greeted her. Instead of coming in straightaway, she stood on his doorstep.
“May I come in?” she finally asked, sounding tentative.
“What? Of course you can come in.” Chance wasn’t sure what was going on because he wasn’t going to stand for it. “Get your sweet little ass in here.” They had said they were going to communicate better this go round and he was determined to do just that.
She brushed past him without a word. She rolled her hips as she went into the living room and despite his bewilderment he couldn’t help but think he was one lucky man to have her in his bed. Or at least, he hoped she would still be in his bed. Something was up and it wasn’t the price of gold.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, because he wasn’t going to spend his morning walking on eggshells. He didn’t do that. He reached for her and she moved into arms readily enough. He gave her a hug and kissed the top of her head.
“That photographer yesterday in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot is suing me.” She turned. “Plus, we have to go talk to the cops this afternoon.”
“Yes, I would. And I’d like to know his name so I can go have a chat with him. What the hell? They are supposed to respect your personal space.” That seriously scared him. “Maybe you should start using a bodyguard whenever I’m not with you.”
Jolene bit her lip as she pulled away and looked up at him. “I hate to do that, but it might make sense. I know I’ve always said that the cameras are just something I need to get used to but that guy caught me off guard.”
“I know you want to be accessible but you need to be safe too.”
She nodded.
“Is there something else? You’re too quiet,” he teased.
“Wayne Rush’s team was talking to my brother. He wants me to cut a record with him.” Jolene was wearing jeans, a
