into the explanation. “No one knows where Martin is, and I don’t have a clear answer on when he disappeared. We’re thinking a couple of weeks at least. And having a sit down with the Suns is sort of difficult with their president on the lam or missing.”

Corey scowled. “Yeah, I’m not a fan of Dennis. If he’s in charge, it’s no wonder things are in a cluster over there.”

“That’s the thing. He’s not.” Ethan smirked, still trying to figure out how the hell a woman took control of a ragtag group of men who barely made up a motorcycle club. “I’m told that Martin’s sister is taking his place, for the moment. Something about not wanting one of these other guys claiming the seat and putting up a fight when Martin gets back.”

Now, Corey sat forward, just as intrigued as Ethan had been before. “You’re telling me this girl is actually leading the group, and they’re following her lead?”

“I don’t know. I get the impression that maybe there’s some pushback on it. But it sounds like she’s standing firm. I can’t even begin to imagine what sort of woman could sit in that position.” Ethan shook his head. He sure as hell didn’t want to cross paths with a woman who held that kind of sway over a group of rough and tumble men.

Nodding thoughtfully, Corey said, “If she’s holding his place, it sounds like she knows where he is, which would mean he’s in hiding. Maybe we could press her about it, as potential allies.”

“We could, but from the tone I get, I don’t think she’s covering it up. The way Martin just vanished all of a sudden gives me a weird feeling, like this wasn’t planned. She might not have a clue what’s going on with him.” Ethan wasn’t sure why he thought so, but he had a gut feeling.

“Fair enough. Let’s get what we can on her so we know what we’re facing. I’ll call Dylan, and you find out if we can get a face to face with her.” Corey cursed under his breath and rubbed a hand down his face. “Dealing with a woman president. It’s a whole different ball game.”

“Yeah? Kind of like being married?” Ethan teased.

Corey grunted. “I’m not married yet.”

Rolling his eyes, Ethan said, “Might as well be.”

“This is different, dude. Women don’t think the same way we do, especially when it comes to business. It isn’t going to be easy dealing with a club who’s missing it’s prez, who now has a woman at the helm. Those boys will have their panties in a bunch, and…”

Ethan blurted out a laugh in the middle of Corey’s sentence, “Sorry boss, go ahead.” He said, his suppressed laughter still managing to break through. “You did that on purpose.”

Corey tried to mask the smile on his face, “And, we don’t know what kind of decisions this lady is going to make. Dig up everything you can, about her, the VP and other top members and what they’re up to, and any other intel about their business.”

Corey was placing a lot of trust in him, and Ethan was grateful for it. Ethan had no intent to make his life any more complicated than he liked it to be, but this was exciting. It definitely beat security detail.

Getting to his feet, Ethan nodded. “Alright man, I’ll find out what I can about this woman. And I’ll let you know what I find out about a meeting.”

“We meet on our turf,” Corey called after his just before he shut the door. It sounded very gang-like, and Ethan smiled to himself. The Flames preferred to be low-key, more focused on making money than gaining notoriety, but every once in a while, when shit hit the proverbial fan, Ethan got flashbacks of acting in West Side Story in high school. Ethan had played Riff, and that was the last time he’d been seriously involved in anything.

It was a month after the production that everything had gone to hell.

Running a hand over his hair and thinking he might need a haircut soon, Ethan strode down the hall, as if trying to run away from those memories. He had work to do, and he didn’t have time to put it off just so he could reminisce. That was his past, and it had long passed.

If the Silver Suns fell apart, or if they mutinied against this woman in charge, they’d have an even bigger mess to clean up added to the
