he comes back.”

Rolling that around in his head, Ethan asked, “She thinks he’s coming back?”

“She’s a woman. Who knows what she really thinks? But a woman sitting in the President’s chair at the head of the table isn’t making shit any easier over there. The tension is high. I think the shit might hit the fan if you guys don’t step in and hash it out.”

Trying to picture a woman who would be able to handle the rowdy crew the Silver Suns had, Ethan wrinkled his nose. He conjured an image of a woman that looked like Martin, with thin hair and beefy fingers, and shuddered. It wasn’t a pleasant thought, and he hoped Corey would do the dirty work of sitting down to make arrangements with the woman.

“How long has Martin been MIA?” Ethan tried to trace back in his head the last time Corey or Dylan had spoken to him. It had to have been at least a month.

“I don’t know. No one’s saying exactly, but the woman’s been at the forefront for at least a week or 2 now.”

That didn’t bode well for Martin, if this was foul play. Ethan couldn’t think of anyone who would have sought personal revenge on him. Maybe some ravens coming out of the woodwork? He needed to know more, just this bit of info gave him nothing to go off of. “Alright, let me know if you hear anything else.”

“You got it. I’ll expect payment in the mail.”

“It’ll be there.” Ethan hung up, shaking his head. He glanced at the time and clenched his teeth. He’d been hoping to call it a day, go back to his place and relax. Maybe read, or binge something on TV with a couple of beers and some chips. And he wasn’t in the mood for company tonight, or he would have taken one of the club girls to bed.

But he knew Corey was still here, and he couldn’t push this news until tomorrow, and started to make his way back into the clubhouse. He heard some greetings, jokes, and jests from the guys who had already said bye, at least from the ones who were still here and not screwing some chick’s brains out in the bunks in the back.

After a long time, he’d finally found a comfort zone. He worked hard when he was a prospect, put in more time and effort than almost anybody else, and that was why he got patched so quickly. But maybe it was too quick, and the sudden increase in responsibility that he anticipated with the patch never came.

The free time was helpful, he worked on himself and didn’t waste it, but it wasn’t what he wanted. He valued this brotherhood more than anything, and he wanted something more in life. He was never going to find it if he didn’t step up to the plate. So, he shrugged off lingering thoughts, and walked his way to the back, rapping with his knuckles on Corey’s door. His president made a grunting noise that he assumed was an invitation to enter, so he opened the door and stepped inside.

“Well, don’t you look chipper,” Corey remarked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I’m assuming this isn’t a social visit.”

Ethan sighed. “I have some news about the Silver Suns,” he stated bluntly.

Corey raised an eyebrow. “Have a seat.” He motioned to the chair across the desk from him.

He took the chair, sitting forward with his elbows on his knees. “I’ve got an informant that tells me things are all fucked up over there.”

“We knew that. Details, Ethan. I don’t have time to bullshit. I’m already late for dinner.” Ever since he’d gotten together with Regan, Corey’s entire demeanor had changed. He was still a damn good club president, but his priorities shifted, and his relationship with Regan was on an even keel with the club. It changed the dynamic, when your president had someone waiting at home for him, especially since Corey used to spend nights in his office, falling asleep in his chair.

Ethan was a little jealous. He hadn’t been in a stable relationship with a woman in years. At the same time, he didn’t build his status up in the club after patching, and he knew now was the time to focus on that. He didn’t need anyone at home, harassing him for spending a few extra hours working. Or just chilling and playing pool with his club brothers.

Taking a deep breath, he set all that aside and launched
