The Enemy - Kelsey Clayton Page 0,96

be the one I come back to. It may be hard, both chasing our dreams, but we've been through worse. I have no doubt in my mind that we'll make it work.

LENNON

SIX MONTHS LATER

I watch Grayson hanging the picture of Cade's last competition on the wall. Every time I tell him to tilt it one way or another, he goes way too far. The phrase “just a bit” clearly isn't in his vocabulary.

"Ugh," Savannah groans. "Let me do it."

She pushes Grayson out of the way and moves the picture perfectly into place. The three of us stand back to look at it, and I can't help but smile. He's achieved so much. After signing with Billabong, he's been traveling almost constantly and I've never seen him happier. All his dreams are coming true.

Mine on the other hand, almost didn't. After choosing Cade over my dad once and for all, he did something even lower than paying my mom to sign her rights over—he pulled my tuition. I was getting everything ready to head to New York when I got the call from the finance office asking how I planned on paying for school. Needless to say, I was devastated.

If he thought he could break me and force me into coming home, he was wrong. You see, because I happen to have friends in high places. Ones that will have my back, no matter what life throws at me. And Colby Hendrix was exactly that. The second he found out about what my dad did, he called Juilliard and paid all four years of my tuition up front. Then, despite my telling him not to, proceeded to buy a condo in the heart of the city and insisted I live in it. Needless to say, I owe Colby my life, and even Cade can appreciate that.

"I still don't understand the significance of that," Grayson says, looking over at the two pieces of broken surfboard hanging on the wall.

I smile as I remember the first time Cade and I met. When he veered out of the way just in time to avoid hitting me. I never realized he kept the broken pieces until one day when he insisted on hanging them on the wall. He said it's part of our story, and I couldn't agree more.

"It's special," I tell him.

Savannah smirks because she knows the story behind it, but for the most part, it's mine and Cade's little secret. Something that is only our own. And I'd like to keep it that way.

A knock sounds at the door and my brows furrow. "Did you guys order food or something?"

They both shake their heads. I walk over to the door and the second I open it, my jaw drops.

There stands Cade—back from Fiji and tan as hell. He's holding a bouquet of pink roses in his hand and his suitcase in the other. I throw myself into his arms and breathe in his cologne.

"You're home early!"

He laughs softly. "I couldn't stay away any longer. I missed you too much."

Long distance isn't for the weak, but Cade and I both agreed that it's only four years until I graduate, and then the two of us can see the world together. In the meantime, we have a two week rule. No matter what, we only go a maximum of two weeks of being apart, whether it takes me going to him or him coming home. Apparently, Cade can only last a week.

I step back and help him bring his things inside, before looking over at Grayson and Savannah. "Unless you two want to see a live action porno, I suggest you leave."

Grayson wiggles his eyebrows, causing Sav to smack him in the stomach. She grabs his wrist and pulls toward the exit.

"Have fun, you two."

Cade looks me up and down, licking his lips in a way he knows turns me into a puddle of mush. "Oh, trust me, we will."

Corrupt My Mind

My name is Zayn Bronsyn,

and I think I screwed up.

I wasn’t supposed to fall,

especially not for her.

She’s in a league of her own,

and I’m just her brother’s scumbag friend.

The last time I saw her,

she was thirteen with braces.

Now, she’s back from boarding school,

with an hourglass body that’ll bring me to my knees.

If Easton finds out I hooked up with his sister,

he might actually kill me.

She’s too innocent, too perfect for a guy like me,

but I can’t resist bringing her into my messed up world.

Amelia Donovan might be the one to revive my blackened heart.

Acknowledgments

Wow. I can’t believe this series is over already. It feels like just yesterday I was sitting down to write The Sinner. These characters are an addiction to write. I honestly couldn’t get enough of them, except maybe Knox. He drove me nuts.

Don’t worry though, because the spin off is coming in September 2020 and it features all your favorite guys—Zayn, Jace, Carter, and Bryce. I also might have a super secret surprise coming real soon. ;)

This series, and you readers, have done things for my career that I only dreamed were possible. I honestly cannot thank you enough. Turning writing some books into a full time career that can provide for my family is something I longed for but never knew if it would actually happen. Now it’s my reality, and that’s so surreal to me.

To my team, Christine Estevez, Christina Santos, and Mercedez Potts—you guys keep me together. Whether it’s reminding me of things I need to do, asking me if I need anything, or doing all the work I don’t have time for because I’m too busy writing on impossible deadlines I set for myself, you’re always there. I honestly don’t know what I would do without the three of you.

To Kiezha and Tiffany, thank you for making this book as perfect as possible. I appreciate both of you so much.

To Lindsey, Alley, Sam, and Kristy, thank you for pushing me to finish this and sprinting with me so that I could. Without you guys, this book probably would have been three months late. Just saying.

To Melissa and Ashley, thank you for being there to just listen to me vent and bounce ideas off of. You two are the best and I love you for that.

Lastly, thank you to my husband, who never understands I have to write and insists we go for car rides and spend time together. You’re lucky you’re cute.

Until next time.

(Which may be sooner than you think.)

xoxo,

Kels
