The Enemy Duet - M.E. Clayton Page 0,98

had on her kept him updated on Fiona throughout the years, so I knew she had grown into a beautiful woman.

But Vicky?

Motherfucker, I hadn’t been prepared for how stunning she turned out to be.

Murmurs had begun the second we had walked in the room, so I knew we were going to have to get this shindig going. “Alright, team, let’s do this,” I chuckled.

“I have a question, where’s the bar?”

Fiona looked at Vicky. “Ooohh, good question.”

Vicky shrugged a bare, smooth shoulder. “I thought so.”

I laughed. “There’ll be cocktail waitresses floating about with-”

“Tequila?” Vicky asked. “Because if they’re not floating around here with tequila, then I need to know where the bar is, Will.”

I could tell Damien was losing his patience with Vicky, so praying she wouldn’t deck me, I wrapped my arm around Vicky’s waist. “Tonight’s going to be great!” I announced before telling Damien and Fiona, “See you guys around and about.”

While Vicky might have changed in age and maturity, her personality was still the same. “Where in the fuck are you taking me,” she hissed. “I’m supposed to be here to keep Fiona company, Will.”

I snorted. “You’re here to ensure Fiona would be here, Stems. Damien’s not going to let Fiona leave his side.”

She untangled her body from my hold, and when she turned towards me, it was the first time tonight that I was able to finally appreciate her appearance. Vicky’s hair had darkened over the years and was now more of an auburn color than outright red. Her face was still the perfection it had been back in school with her arched brows, hazel eyes, freckle-splattered perk nose, and plump lips.

Her dress was classy and stylish, but it left little to the imagination and I could tell she put time and effort in keeping herself trim. Vicky had perfect handful-sized breasts, a small waist, wide hips and the same sleek, toned stems she had in high school.

I might have never had the chance to experience her ten years ago, but I had every intention of experiencing her tonight.

“Let’s be clear about something, Will,” she whispered-yelled. “I do not want to be here with you. I had hoped to attend with Fiona. I figured once Damien was finished with his hosting duties and they left, I could find me someone to occupy the rest of my night. I had absolutely no plans on having my time monopolized by you.”

Not sure what happened, because…well, usually I’m the easy-going one, but something about Vicky walking in as my date, but telling me she was game to go home with any guy who caught her eye, had me seeing red.

Fucking red.

I snatched her up by her arm and yanked her towards me. To everyone else it might have looked like an affectionate gesture, however, it was anything but. “Now, let me be clear about something, Stems,” I growled. “I don’t give a fuck what your original plans for the night were. You’re here with me now, and you will act befitting my fucking date. Do you understand me?”

Her beautiful hazel eyes widened, and I knew she wanted to deck the shit out of me. “You sonof-”

“William,” came a voice from behind me, effectively cutting off whatever Vicky was about to spew.

I turned around and came face to face with Harold Kramer and his wife, Ida. Harold was a long-time investor, and they were both good people. “Harold,” I greeted as I reached for his hand. After we shook, I greeted Ida, as well, kissing her on the back of her hand. “I’m so glad you guys could make it.”

“Oh, well, we wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” Ida exclaimed before looking over at Vicky and asking, “And who is this?”

I wrapped my arm around Vicky’s shoulders and introduced her. “Harold, Ida, this is my date Victoria McGrath. Vicky meet Harold and Ida Cramer, long time clients of G&C.” I watch in awe as Vicky switched personalities and went from a hissing viper to the perfect date.

After a few minutes of chitchat, Harold and his wife made their way over to greet Damien. As soon as they were out of earshot, I turned towards Vicky. “Look, can we just call a truce for a few hours?”

Vicky eyed me and I could tell she was giving it some serious thought. “You’re not a good memory, Will,” she said, surprising the fuck out of me with her candidness.

“Tough shit,” I snapped. Something about Vicky was making me on edge and I couldn’t
