The Enemy Duet - M.E. Clayton Page 0,97

smiled down at Fiona, kissed her cheek, and said, “Fiona, it’s such a pleasure to see you again.” He ran his eyes down the length of her body and back up again. “You look absolutely stunning.”

My girl didn’t disappoint, though. “Well, I wish I could say the same about you. I mean, while you do look handsome in your tux, it’s not all that much of a pleasure to see you again.”

He shot a look at Damien before facing Fiona again, and Damien’s voice boomed across the room. “That’s enough, Fiona.”

“No, Dame…she’s right,” Will said, surprising me. “Walking in here after all these years and greeting her as if I never had anything to apologize for was an asshole thing to do. I’m sorry, Fiona. I’m sorry for a lot of things, but right now I’m mostly sorry for treating you as if you’re still the weak girl we treated you as in school.”

I waited to see what Fiona would do, but as gracious as always, she replied, “I accept your apology, William.”

His smile was sincere and beautiful. “Thank you, Fiona.”

Damien shattered the moment with his abruptness, “You ladies ready?”

“Yeah, we just have to get our bags and shawls. But-”

I finally snapped out of my stupor. “Wait a sec, what’s he doing here?” I asked pointing at Will.

Will turned towards me, and his smile was positively lethal “I’m your date, Vic.”

Uhm, excuse me? “My date? What the hell do you mean my date?”

“When Dame told me you were attending with Fiona, I told him you would be my plus-one.”

Oh, the arrogance. “Oh, did you now. And the both of you thought this would be a fine idea without running it by anyone first? The ‘anyone’ being me.”

Will snorted at me as if I were an annoying gnat. “Asking you would imply that you had a choice, Stems, and you don’t. You are my date for this evening and, if you act nice, I may even kiss you at the end of the night.”

Damien got to me before I could turn Will into a eunuch. “I’ll show you what you can kiss, you pompous jerk!” Will Creston was every bit the arrogant jerk he was when we were kids.

Damien held me immobile as he said, “Calm the fuck down, Vicky. It’s simple…either you attend with Will or you don’t attend at all.”

“Dame-” Fiona’s voice didn’t help the situation.

“What’s it going to be, Halloween?” he snapped at her.

I was fuming. Absolutely fuming. But I wasn’t going to let him take my behavior out on Fiona. “Fine! No need to threaten Fee, Damien.”

Damien let me go and I had to grind my teeth at Will’s cheerfulness. “Great! Can we get going before our guests start to wonder where the G and C of G&C are?”

Too bad looks couldn’t kill, or else Will would be on the floor right now. He held out his arm for me, and I wrapped my arm around his so hard, the jerk started laughing. I let him escort me to the elevator not saying a word.

Once we hit the lobby, Will leaned over, and nuzzling my neck as if ten years hadn’t gone by, he said, “Awe, come on, Stems. You know you missed me.”

Falling back into the pattern of things, I ignored him as we waited for Fiona and Damien. A few minutes later they were exiting the elevators, and soon the men were guiding us into the limo.

Looking over at Fiona I could tell she was nervous, but I watched as Damien grabbed her hand as he spoke with Will. It was a comforting gesture even though he wasn’t even addressing her.

“I love you,” I mouthed because I did. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.

Fiona deserved to be happy, and if I had to suffer through a night with Will fucking Creston to make that happen, well…hopefully, I didn’t kill him when it was all said and done.

Chapter 8

A successful night or a bloodbath? It’s anyone’s guess.

William~

We reached the third floor of our building and I could tell Fiona was nervous, whereas Vicky looked ready to spit nails. I knew she was still spitting mad about being ambushed, but I didn’t care. Grownup Vicky was hot as fuck and there was no way she was getting away from me tonight.

I’m not sure what I had expected but being hit with knee-weakening attraction hadn’t been it. When I walked in and first saw Fiona, I hadn’t been surprised at how lovely she looked. The PI Damien
