have a full day planned for tomorrow. I’m sleeping at AJ’s. I’ll see you Sunday for the ride to Phoenix. I’m excited. Thanks for bringing me, Jinx.” With a kiss to my cheek she runs away.
Champ makes a grunt noise. “Tell me about it. She’s finally ready and AJ has her hopping away. I wish I knew what the fuck I’m doing wrong.”
“You’re closer than me, Brother. Don’t let up. She’s ready but scared.” Justice sits in Debra’s chair.
I nod looking at the sky. “Yeah. Carmen too?”
“She’s going back with AJ, Leya and Debra. They’re planning a girl’s day out for an unborn kid. Fuckin’ women. When you think it’s finally going your way, they skitter away.”
A woman stumbles over and Justice is up. “Get the fuck out of here. I have enough problems without your help.”
Light flashes and my eyes close. I laugh as the topless mamma stumbles back the other way mumbling about just needing another drink.
Justice falls back in his seat. “Another drink is her excuse? They’re fuckin’ free and all over the place.”
Hannah laughs. “She’s a little too drunk to remember that. I needed a break, we’re just stealing some chairs.” People too close always has her moving to less busy areas or a seat.
“You’re not bothering us. Sit, Brothers.” Justice invites Pres and Hannah. Right behind them are Falcon, Solei and Banks with a Brother I don’t know in an Alpha cut.
“Brothers.” I throw chin to them all. Falcon pulls chairs to the side making us a big half circle.
Solei sits on Falcon’s lap and looks right at me. “How are you doing, Jinx?”
I’m surprised Solei asks. “Good.” The fire was a bit much but it’s good over here.
“You’ll get used to the bright light.” Hannah has me shaking my head.
“Get the fuck out of my head, Brother. Mitch told me I’d get used to it. That isn’t tonight. I’m good with it.” I’m two weeks in and have done better than anyone expected.
Justice turns. “Depth has to be a tough one. She said you’re 20/10 with the new lens and the other zooms and focuses like a camera.”
I nod. It does more than that, everyone doesn’t need it, so I don’t explain. “The depth is easy during the day. At night, I’m still getting used to it, since I didn’t fall over the chair, it’s getting easier.” I shrug.
Brinks sits with a mamma on his lap. “You cold cocked that asshole.”
Hannah shakes her head. I shrug. “He had it coming.” He grabbed Debra’s ass and pulled her against him.
“Why’d you shoot him?” Solei asks.
I smile. “Hitting him had me off balance. He wasn’t moving to get up fast so I knew I’d be ready when he did. Debra had her gun out, it was me or her, I took the shot. The fire hadn’t fucked with my eyes yet so the aim was good.”
Brinks laughs. “Dead center, Brother.”
“You should have let Debra take it. She would still be here.” Solei isn’t happy with me.
“No, she’d have helped the fucktard, feeling bad about shooting him when he was just standing up. She’s more like Leya than you,” Falcon tells her exactly what I thought would happen.
Solei gives him a look. “Your mom would have shot him.”
I hold my laugh. Blanche would have. Falcon nods. “Adeline wouldn’t.”
“He’s right. Debra is trying to be Badass,” Hannah shakes her head, “She’s not there yet. Her parents left Pennsylvania before she was born but still live mostly Amish. Hurting someone is different to her. For me it’s kill or be killed. Debra isn’t ever getting to there. She is making her way to happy. Next party, it could go either way. She’ll be more assertive with her sweet disposition or touched by Badass and shoot the twat-sniffers.”
Everyone is laughing. Hannah looks at me as Falcon and Pres talk to Banks and the Brother with him. “Your balance with the braces is better. Does seeing more help?” She has done everything including re-programming the chip and my Ops glasses for my eye yesterday. My Brothers are fucking awesome. It’s like Danny said, they get shit to me that I’ve never heard of and it works.
“It does. I’m still losing balance if I move too fast. My left side sometimes pushes harder than my right without the brace. I need to work out a little more I guess.” I smile at her. The brace is quicker to respond than my own leg. Luckily, the left arm is perfect. It has saved
