head, frustrated.

“Hi Shaina. This is Fork, my husband,” I said.

Shaina had been around at club parties that included multiple charters and rallies and I knew she’d hooked up with Deacon once. I knew her pretty well and liked her a lot. She was gorgeous and wild; a born and bred biker princess like me.

She tried to kiss Deacon when she saw him, and he turned his head so she got his cheek. She smiled at him and shrugged. “Damn,” she said and wiped lipstick off his cheek with her thumb.

Deacon said nothing. It was clear that he was off the market.

“Congrats on getting married, sweetie. Nice to meet ya, Fork. Heard good things,” Shaina pulled out.

Deacon sat in the front seat, me and Christian in the back. I held his leg with my hand. His leg jiggled non-stop throughout the flight and was doing it again. He seemed like he wanted to come out of his skin.

Shaina drove quickly and we were at the parking lot in no time with three members by motorcycles and Katie and Jonathan who were sitting at a picnic table. Christian and Jonathan greeted one another with hugs.

“Cops went to her apartment and said her car’s gone,” Jonathan said by way of greeting. “Struggle in the apartment for sure. Door not locked and her wallet was upside down so clear he took her cards and cash. What’s his end game?” Jonathan let go of him and reached for me while Katie hugged Christian.

“Makin’ me suffer,” he said. “He’ll kill her.”

The color drained from Jonathan’s face.

My blood ran cold. I put my hand on Christian’s back and leaned into him. He looked at me with nothing but cold pain in those eyes. He’d appointed himself his mother’s protector a long time ago by doing what he did to keep her and his brother safe and I knew that he felt responsible for this, even though the only person responsible was Will Forker.

“Me n’ Deacon are with these guys. You and Katie stay with Shaina at the clubhouse,” Christian said.

I bit my lip.

Jonathan kissed his fiancée and she moved to me and pulled me into a hug.

“Hey,” I greeted.

She was trembling. “I’ve heard just awful things about him. Awful.”

“Me, too,” I whispered.

We linked arms and headed to Shaina’s SUV.

“I hope they kill him,” Katie said.

I gulped, then introduced her to Shaina.

Katie was a legal secretary, very shy, conservative, and quiet. Most would describe her as a mousy plain Jane. Right now, she stared at her man and my man with a look in her eyes that made me realize that not only had Jonathan shared a lot with her about his and Christian’s abusive father, but if Wild Will Forker were here right now and Katie had a gun in her hand, I suspected she’d pull that trigger.

She got into the backseat of Shaina’s SUV and I opened the front passenger door. Christian was there, then, holding my jaw with both hands and kissing me.

“Love you,” he told me, eyes closed. He leaned down to put his forehead against mine.

“Love you so much. Praying hard she’ll be okay.”

“Yeah,” he said, eyes closed, mouth tight. He was clearly bracing for the worst.

“You’re my Superman. I have faith in your powers,” I told him, holding his face and then kissing him one more time. “Stay safe,” I said.

“Buckle up, baby,” he told me and then slammed the door.

Jonathan backed away from the SUV, waving bye to Katie.

Christian went back to the biker huddle in the parking lot that included my brother. Jonathan went that way, too. I bit my lip watching them while we pulled out.

Shaina drove us toward the Rapid City clubhouse, which was technically between Rapid City and Deadwood and on the edge of a property of a trailer park that I’d never been to, but knew was where Deacon sent Ella and her mom when things went crazy while me and Jenna were locked up at Sioux Falls a while back. This charter was smaller and mostly older guys, including the VP that was Axel’s father, Ben.

I hated being this far away from him. Hated it.

“This is weird,” Katie said.

“What’s that?”

“We’re almost in Deadwood.”

“Yeah?” I gave her a questioning look.

We were in Shaina’s car still and almost to our destination.

“Wild Bill Hickok was killed here and we’re here hoping they catch Wild Will Forker.”

I scoffed.

I touched my phone’s Facebook icon and immediately saw Jolene’s profile picture. I made the picture bigger to get a closer look.
