Come Hot (Club Silken #2) - Jerrie Alexander Page 0,18

this morning when Morgan called.”

“I’m glad you found it.” All my reasons for being pissed vanish. “What do you think about lunch?” I drag my fingers through my hair. I’ve managed on less than the five hours of sleep before.

“I’d love too, but here’s the deal. I have to pick up my bridesmaid dress at the shop before noon. I suppose we can have lunch before or after.”

Suppose? “How about I pick you up at one?”

“Sounds good.”

“Dress casual.” I have to strain to hear her answer and have to wonder if she’s unsure she made the right decision.

I end the call knowing we have to have a serious talk. It’s not in my personality to lie about how I live my life. If Kayla’s not interested, I’ll regret it, but that’s no reason not to be honest.

I feel protective of her, which is probably why I helped her move. Maybe it’s because she’s petite, has silky skin, and delicate features. Her hair is so blonde it’s almost angel white.

Time to hit the shower, where some of my best ideas happen. By the time I’m out and dry, I have our lunch planned. I grab my cell and call the manager of the deli who caters my monthly meetings with the general managers of my storage units. Alfredo will provide everything we need.

Sunday traffic is pure hell and when I get home from the bridal shop, I have just enough time to get ready for my date with Nick. Without an idea of where we’re going, I pull my hair back in a low pony, apply minimum makeup, and wear my favorite blouse, my most comfortable jeans, and sandals.

The knock on my door sends my stomach spinning in circles. I keep remembering the grand tour of Silken he gave me. There was no doubt about his desire. The second he tucked my hand into the crook of his arm, sparks flew between us. A second knock snaps me to attention.

I swing the door open and he’s smiling at me. “Did I interrupt something?”

“What? No?” I step back and he walks inside and looks around. I want him to kiss me again like he did outside in the hall.

“You should be an interior decorator. You have great style.”

“Not me. I have horrible taste.” Nick’s head turns and his right eyebrow lifts. I hurry to clarify my statements. “In furniture, not men. I have great taste in men.” I clamp my mouth shut.

The corners of his lips twitch. He’s trying not to laugh at me as he walks over and stands right in front of me. “I’m glad you straightened that out. I thought there for a minute I would have to prove myself to you.”

I open my mouth to speak, and he leans down to kiss me. His hand grasps the back of my head and holds me to him while he reacquaints himself with the inside of my mouth using his tongue. I hold on to his biceps and when they flex under my hands, I’m lost. I stand on my toes and return his kiss, sinking into him, relishing his body pressed against mine. Warm tingles race from my lips to my womanly parts.

He finally pulls back and smiles against my lips. “That’s the right way to start a lunch date. We should go before my appetite changes from food to you.”

My entire body shivers at his suggestion and chill bumps race up my spine. It takes a second for my brain to kick in. How did he know I wanted him to kiss me?

“Let me grab my cell.” I retrieve it from my bedroom and pause. My fingers trace my lips. I’m amazed at my body’s instant reaction to him. I try to act casual when I rejoin him. “Am I dressed okay?”

“You’re perfect.” Nick takes my hand and leads me into the hallway. He stops and looks at the exact spot where I lost my mind yesterday.

“Do not mention it,” I say in my firmest tone.

The corners of his mouth lift slightly but he doesn’t say a word. He punches the call button and within moments we’re exiting the building. His hand on my back guides me to his car. He opens my door and as I buckle up he whispers, “I have a greater appreciation for hallways now. Yesterday was one of the highlights of my life.”

I look up at him and into his eyes. “Mine too.”

Once we’re settled in his car, he backs out of his
