Come Hot (Club Silken #2) - Jerrie Alexander Page 0,12

elevator button and when it opens we ride up to the sixth floor together.

The doors swish open and we step out onto my floor. “Me either. I smiled so much my jaw may be sore in the morning. It was fun.” He walks me to the door and backs away while I unlock it. “I’ll see you in the morning at Chels.”

I have to keep myself from hugging him. Instead, I say, “You have a wicked sense of humor and I’m just now catching on to you.”

“So, more or no more?”

I watch as he takes long deliberate strides down the hall. Shoulders straight, head high, he rakes his hands through his hair.

“Nick.” He turns and I answer. “More.”

I close my door and kick off my shoes. His humor makes him even more attractive. I stop at the refrigerator and grab a bottle of water and guzzle half of it while I use my free hand to undress. It’s late but I’m too sweaty not to take a shower. I wash my hair then get out and wrap a towel around my head. I’ll pay tomorrow for not drying and styling it tonight but will deal with it in the morning. I slip on a pair of panties and a T-shirt before going straight to bed.

The next morning I arrive at Chels’s apartment at exactly ten-forty. I hate being late so I ring her doorbell ready to apologize. I take another pull on my messy bun and wait until she opens her door. She stands there looking at me and then she laughs. Not a chuckle. A full-on belly laugh.

“You either had a rough Friday night or have a new Saturday morning look? Are you sure you want to come in?”

“Don’t give me a hard time. I had a late night.”

“So I heard. I have to warn you, Nick looks a lot better than you do.”

“Fuck,” I mutter. I forgot he was going to help today. “Hey, this is the real me.” I push past her and see him sitting at her dining room table sipping a mug of something that smells like heaven.

“Good morning.” His voice is way too chipper to have danced his ass off last night. He smiles at me, pulling out the chair next to him. I’m thinking about smacking that smile off his face when it occurs to me he’s probably accustomed to late hours and spending time on the dance floor.

“Morning.” I make an effort to smile as I walk to the kitchen and select the strongest brand of coffee to drop into the Keurig. I wait until my cup is full and carry it to the table.

“Nick brought hot donuts. Grab one while they’re still warm. Hang on while I change shoes. Sandals might be a bad idea.” Chels disappears up the stairs.

I sit in the chair Nick pulls out for me and he places a donut in front of me. “I figured we both could use a little sugar this morning.” He smiles, and I realize I’m glad he’s here.

“Thanks. I forgot you were coming to help.”

“Damn, I must not have made a big impression on you last night.”

“I’m not functioning very well this morning.” I take a bite of donut, close my eyes, and savor the burst of flavor. I lean back in the chair and moan. “I want to smack you for looking so good this morning.” I reach for my messy bun but stop since hair and food don’t mix.

He leans close and whispers in my ear. “Please don’t moan like that.”

I can’t resist the temptation and do it again. “Like that?”

He chuckles, raising his eyebrows. “You’re so bad.”

Chels comes thundering down the stairs in a run. “Ready? The manager is meeting us in the storage room at eleven.”

I wolf down the rest of my breakfast, wash it down with hot coffee, and stand. “I’m right behind you.” I lick the icing off my fingers and turn to Nick. “Thanks for helping.”

He stares at my hand as if he’s hypnotized. He blinks and seems to return from wherever his mind went and whispers, “You’re killing me.”

We follow Chels out the door and down the hall to the elevator. Nick pulls his cell out of his back pocket, keys in a number, and tells somebody to hold on. “Chels, what floor is the storage room?”

“Eight.” She punches the call button.

“You two go ahead, I’ll be up in a minute.”

Chels and I step into the elevator and leave him standing there. “Wonder
