reasoning for being attracted to me. “That’s disturbing.”

“I didn’t want my friend to be suspicious,” she explains. “Take me home with you, Colton.”

Done resisting, done hesitating, I climb in the truck and crank it. A second later, we’re leaving Cerberus’ property and heading toward my house.

She hums along to the radio, watching out the window rather than engaging me in conversation. Is it possible she’s as nervous as I am right now? My heart is racing, sweat dampens my temples, and it’s worse than the ten minutes right before I lost my virginity, and I was only nervous then because I didn’t know what to expect.

Now, I know how amazing sex can be. I have no doubt sex with Sophia is going to be out of this world, but I’m still freaking out, more from wondering what happens after than from anticipation.

“The light is green,” she whispers when I get entranced at the sight of her running her finger back and forth, back and forth over the bottom hem of her dress.

“Right,” I say, darting my eyes forward so I don’t get us both killed in a traffic accident.

She chuckles, but I only manage a quick look in her direction before focusing back on the road ahead of us.

“What?”

I grin when she laughs again.

“Why are you so nervous?”

“Is it that obvious?”

“You’re strumming your fingers on the steering wheel. You have beads of sweat rolling down your neck. Your back is as stiff as a board.”

“Very observant, detective.”

She laughs even louder at that. “I learned from the best.”

“You’ve been the perfect pupil.”

“I bet there are a million more things you can teach me.”

Her voice takes on a sultry tone, and my dick takes notice before my brain can even catch up, making me wish I made a checklist of the things I want to do with her tonight.

“Rick isn’t home tonight?” she asks when I make the turn into my neighborhood.

“Staying with a friend,” I assure her.

In the drive, I put the truck in park, but don’t turn off the ignition.

Her legs, tan in the moonlight and a stark contrast to the light color of her dress, hold every ounce of my attention. I haven’t seen them bare since that day in my kitchen, and what a damn shame that is. They’re perfect, deserving of attention.

“If we go inside—”

“I know,” she interrupts, her eyes finding mine in the dim light.

We both knew what was going to happen when I drove away from the clubhouse, but I’m giving her one last chance, one more opportunity to walk away. I can’t make her promises. I don’t have a crystal ball able to tell me what tomorrow is going to look like for us.

Maybe it’s a casual sex thing. Maybe I don’t have to worry about Rick getting hurt because she’ll only come around when he’s gone. Maybe it’ll be a one-time thing because we’ll find out we aren’t even close to being sexually compatible.

I shake my head, answering every one of those questions in an instant. There’s nothing casual about what’s been stewing between the two of us. Rick will hurt because I’ll be hurting if she walks away. There’s no way I’ll spend only one night inside of this woman.

“What will tomorrow look like?” she asks as if reading my mind. Her fingers tangle in the hem of her dress, but she keeps her eyes locked on mine.

I bite my lip before answering, knowing it could be a moment of truth for us. If she wants something different, I may have to be the one to walk away.

“You mean after I wake you with my cock inside of you?” She swallows, getting distracted with the possibilities.

“Is this a one-time thing?”

“It can’t be, Sophia. Nor is it casual. I can’t do no-strings attached with you.”

“You’re sure?”

“A hundred percent. If that’s not what you want, I can take you home.”

Her eyes flutter as she looks at me. “I’m right where I want to be.”

Chapter 24

Sophia

Not casual.

I think I hesitated for so long because this was my top fear.

I’m not afraid of what my family will think or the possible backlash of dating an older man. My mom is younger than my dad. My entire life I’ve witnessed what love should look like. Does that mean I have daddy positivity rather than daddy issues because of my childhood? Maybe.

“Are we going to sit here all night?” I whisper when his eyes focus on my mouth but he makes no move to get out of the
